A Kingdom Hearts TV series has been rumored for a while now, but for the first time this report has some credible backing. The rumor first circulated last night from a source that has a pretty hefty track-record of dishonest reporting. But as with any rumor, it sparked some digging and that digging has provided a few credible sources saying that a Kingdom Hearts TV show is in the works and will be coming exclusively to Disney+.
The most recent pieces to this bigger puzzle came from a variety of entertainment journalists across industries, ones that have very credible backgrounds and sources. The Cinema Spot’s Emre Kaya was among those citing a new TV series was on the way, saying that Square Enix created a pilot to pitch using the Unreal Engine, making it a CG animated adventure instead of the originally rumored live-action take. She also added that the series is reportedly in the middle of casting:
There is a #KingdomHearts series in the works at Disney+.
Disney originally wanted to make it but that didn’t work out, so Square Enix was asked to create a pilot using Unreal Engine.
This series is most likely not live-action, but CG animated. They’re currently casting. pic.twitter.com/jroZXImeOm

Disinder’s Skyler Shuler, the Editor in Chief, also weighed in with their own confirmation after being tagged by MCUCosmic’s Jeremy Congrad’s contributions with his own “it’s true” addition.
Been tagged in Jeremys post (which is true), so here’s what I know:
-Kingdom Hearts will be a Disney+ series, not a movie.
-It’s animated (CG)
-Disney VO actors are expected to reprise their roles (Jim Cummings, Bill Farmer, Tony Anselmo)
All I know. https://t.co/UTFGqXtSP6

It seems that Disney was initially planning to create their own take on this franchise with an animated series but it was eventually canned due to creative differences. While this news is exciting, especially under Square Enix’s leadership, it’s important to remember that neither the studio nor Disney has confirmed these claims at this time, and though credible – all reports should be taken with a grain of salt until official confirmation goes public.
