Since it looks like Konami won’t be giving us a Silent Hill game anytime soon – other than a slot machine, apparently – there is definitely a gap in the horror scene that many would love to see Kojima-san fill. Though he has mentioned that Kojima Productions will eventually brand out into film, he also has a few horror concepts in mind for his possible next game release.

In a recent interview with Rocket Beans Gaming, Kojima-san hinted at what’s next. But before you get too excited, the idea is still very much that and he clarified that he didn’t know when it will actually happen. He told the site, “Yes I want to do a horror game one day,” the director said. “Yes, of course. Because I have some new ideas that I could kind of get out there, but I don’t know when.”

He added that if he and the team decided to continue on this path that he’d like to “challenge” the horror genre in its entirety – which is a very Kojima thing to say. One thing that the Death Stranding reviews have mentioned is that the latest IP almost feels like two games in one. One of those ‘games’ feels very much like a movie with the heavy cutscenes and how they seemingly felt disjointed from the gameplay itself. He knows narrative design, he knows how to tell a story – personally I would love to see his breakout studio take on a horror adventure.

As for his immediate release schedule, his breakout open-world game Death Stranding releases here in just a few short days on November 8th on PlayStation 4, with a PC launch slated for Summer 2020. For more about the game itself before its release:

“Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.”
