Halo: Spartan Assault Announced for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8

The Halo legacy lives on in a whole new way.

A while back, Microsoft registered some new trademarks for a project called “Halo: Spartan Assault,” leaving us to wonder if it was a new game or a tie-in to Halo 4.

343 Industries officially revealed Spartan Assault, a new twin-stick shooter specifically designed for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.  The game features 25 campaign missions set between Halo 3 and Halo 4, with a number of Emblems to collect and Achievements to unlock.  It’s definitely got a great deal of action behind it, and comfortable touch-screen controls that let you position your thumbs wherever you want on the screen so they don’t get in the way of the action.

The game will cost $6.99 and is set for release sometime this July.  343 is contemplating adding Xbox 360 controller support to the game, and it could end up on Xbox Live Arcade if it’s popular enough.

Look for a strategic preview of Spartan Assault in the near future.
