Guild Wars 2 Sees 3000 Permanent Bans Over Vendor Exploit

Attempts to junk the economy are not viewed lightly by ArenaNet.

ArenaNet recently banned roughly 3000 Guild Wars 2 players for purchasing mis-priced items from a vendor in bulk. They then were breaking down the items and selling them for their valuable crafting materials, which was interfering with the economy; the bans can be commuted to three days if the players agree to delete all items and money gained via the exploit.

“We take our community and the integrity of the game very seriously, and want to be clear that intentionally exploiting the game is unacceptable,” wrote Guild Wars 2 lead producer Chris Whiteside. “The players we banned were certainly intentionally and repeatedly exploiting a bug in the game. We intended to send a very clear message that exploiting the game in this way will not be tolerated, and we believe this message now has been well understood.”

Sales of Guild Wars 2 have also been suspended from the main site in order to not overload the servers; the game is still available for purchase via other means. In other news, mail authentication has been switched on but password resets are still disabled and 500 players other players were banned for botting for 72-hours.
