Valve continues to surprise PC players with yet another client-specific game joining the Steam ranks: Guild Wars 2. With a ton of EA titles like Star Wars The Old Republic and Bungie’s Destiny 2 joining the fray, Guild Wars 2 is the latest addition that will carry over an incredibly loyal fanbase to the Valve library as the company continues to compete against Epic Games and their battle for exclusives.
A source previously told us here at Prima Games earlier this year that this move was going to be made, but we couldn’t verify it that information with a secondary corroboration. Now it looks like the decision has been made, because Guild Wars 2 is officially listed on Steam as a free-to-play MMORPG with a release date set for November 2020.
This game first made its debut from ArenaNet back in 2012 and has seen countless expansions to continue its incredibly immersive story. While one major criticism about the game is that it seemed to be an overly simplified degradation of the first Guild Wars title, the level of customization and narrative branches were still immensely powerful and enough to maintain the ever-faithful Guild Wars fanbase.

I’ve personally been a massive fan of the Guild Wars franchise for a long time, with 7 maxed out characters and a massively dedicated guild. The fight to protect Tyria has been real and to see yet another immersive MMORPG make its way over to Steam is both exciting for me and daunting. Between this and Star Wars: The Old Republic, I can pretty much kiss productivity goodbye.
Players can choose through a variety of classes, each offering a unique origin story and path in-game. With numerous unique locations to explore, countless memorable NPCs to befriend, and notable voice actors that bring each character to life, this is an MMORPG that has absolutely earned every bit of the love its gotten. Seeing this move to Steam is going to open up that playerbase immensely, especially with the base game itself being free to play so curious gamers can dip their toes in without committing anything monetarily.
