The video game community is currently mourning with the recent news that Gearbox Co-Founder Landon Montgomery passed away on Wednesday, March 25th.

Gearbox’s official Twitter account confirmed Montgomery’s passing. You can find the official statement below:

“We are heartbroken after learning today of the passing of one of our co-founders, Landon Montgomery. 

In our earliest years, Landon played a significant role in helping to set our path. We will always be thankful and remember him for being a part of our lives. During this trying time, out thoughts, support, and affection are with those who were closest to him.”

A wide range of tributes poured in from the community remembering the work of Montogomery in the worlds he helped to create in the founding of Gearbox, especially Borderlands. His other career achievements include work on the Half-Life franchise, Halo: Combat Evolved, 007 Nightfire, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, and more gaming series that brought joy to millions of players over the years.
