Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 Update From Director

Back at the beginning of July, Square Enix confirmed that the team was hard at work on the Final Fantasy VII Remake part 2. Though COVID-19’s continued spread caused the studio to work entirely remotely, much like millions of other businesses impacted, the team said they were still on track with development. Unfortunately, that news didn’t come bearing a release date, so when is the second part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake coming? 

Game director Tetsuya Nomura recently sat down with the folks over at Famitsu to talk about the next installment. While he wasn’t quite ready to give us an exact release date, he did mention that the team is working diligently to get the next step of this story into the hands of players. “We know that everyone wants the next installment quickly,” he told the site. “We would also like to deliver it as soon as possible.” 

He also added that the feedback from the first installment was invaluable and that the next step will be even better than the first with the necessary changes implemented. Below is an excerpt from the interview with translations provided by @aitaikimochi:

“We know that everyone wants the next installment quickly. We would also like to deliver it as soon as possible. Since we were also able to see the line of quality from the first installment, we hope to make the next installment even better in quality that can make for an even better experience. We would want to get it out as soon as possible, so please wait for it. I think we can clearly convey the direction when we officially announce the next installment.”

Regarding how many parts there will be, that’s still up in the air. Originally, it was thought to only have two parts but that’s changed immensely. Now it comes down to how they want to tackle release. Square has previously mentioned that they could have numerous releases if they wanted to focus on speed rather than length, or up to 3 if players wouldn’t mind longer delays between launches.

The first part was a massive hit for players despite some of the key changes seen from the original. The first part felt incredible and almost like an entirely complete game on its own, so we can’t wait to see what’s next for the Final Fantasy VII remake!
