Holding the Exalted Plains

Description: Establish camps to hold the Exalted Plains and support Inquisition activity in the region.
Starting NPC: Scout Harding
Requirements: None
Reward: +100 Influence and +1 Power Level per camp

Quest Objectives:

  • Established three camps

There are three camps in the Exalted Plains, however you only have access to two of the camps when you first enter the area. The first camp is established as soon as you get to the Exalted Plains, so you receive no reward for it. The blocked camp that you can’t yet access requires you to undertake the Gain Access to Ghilan’nain’s Grove mission via the Skyhold war room table (part of the Ghilan’nain’s Grove side quest) to clear the stone that blocks your path. Once all three camps have been established the quest is complete.

Undead Ramparts to the West

Starting NPC: Scout Harding
Requirements: None
Reward: +128 XP, +80 Influence

Quest Objective:

  • Investigate the Western Ramparts

Speak to Scout Harding when you arrive in the Exalted Plains to begin this quest. Head toward the location marked on the map and take down the group of enemies that attacks. Loot the bodies to find a letter, then continue to the west, taking out more enemies as you go. Along the way you come across Corporal Rosselin engaged in a battle against a few enemies. Save his life by killing the attackers then speak to him to complete the quest.

Lay Rest the Western Ramparts

Description: Pits are piled with bodies, attracting spirits and causing the dead to rise. To make matters worse, the pits are protected by magical barriers, preventing anyone from reaching the dead to burn the remains. Once all the bodies are burned, a signaling horn will alert Gaspard’s troops that the undead threat to the ramparts has been dealt with.
Starting NPC: Corporal Rosselin
Requirements: None
Reward: +512 XP, +200 Influence, +2 Power Level

Quest Objectives:

  • Set fire to the south pit
  • Set fire to the north pit
  • Blow the signaling horn
  • Return to Corporal Rosselin

Speak with Corporal Rosselin to the far west of the starting camp in the Exalted Plains. Bring along at least one mage and head to the waypoints on your map which mark the locations of the north and south pits. When you arrive at the pits, have your tank (warrior) taunt the enemies to get their attention while your mage brings down the barrier. The enemies will not stop spawning until the barriers are down and the bodies are burned. Once you’ve burned the bodies at both pits, head to the signaling horn and interact with it, then head back to Corporal Rosselin.

Calming Victor Rise

Description: Victory Rise is under siege just as the Western Ramparts were.
Starting NPC: Marshal Proulx
Requirements: None
Reward: +512 XP, +200 Influence, +2 Power Level

Quest Objectives:

  • Set fire to the west pit
  • Set fire to the east pit
  • Blow the signaling horn

Victory Rise is west of the Western Ramparts from the previous quests. You can take care of the two pits in the same manner you did in the Lay Rest the Western Ramparts quest, or you can head to the northeast region of the Exalted Plains and speak with Marshal Proulx at Fort Revasan before you take care of the east and west pits. Either way, ignite the bodies at both pits, then blow the signaling horn just like the previous quest.

Requirements: Encounter the Dalish at Halin’sulahn
Reward: +967 XP, +200 Influence, +2 Power Level

Quest Objectives:

  • Defeat the demons at Var Bellanaris
  • Speak with Keeper Hawen

Head over to the Halin’sulahn region of the Exalted Plains and speak to Keeper Hawen. Offer to help with his problems to begin this quest. Make your way over to the burial ground at Var Bellanaris and defeat the enemies infesting the area. Do not destroy any of the graves in this area or you’ll have to deal with additional enemies. Once your task is complete, speak with Keeper Hawen again to complete the quest.

You need to find at least four glyphs which are scattered in the southern portion of the Plains. The glyphs are found in the Halin’sulahn area, the Shrine to Sylaise and the ruins of the Ancient Baths, which are now marked on your map. You need to use a mage to light a veilfire torch in order to locate the glyphs. If you find any of the glyphs before speaking with Keeper Hawen, this quest begins automatically.

Once you have at least four glyphs you need to have a power level of five or more, then head back to Skyhold and send perform a war table mission to find an ancient temple and complete the quest.

By the Grace of the Dalish

Description: Dalish would be skeptical of any force as powerful and connected as the Inquisition. It will take considerable effort to earn the favor of Hawen’s clan.
Starting NPC: Loranil
Requirements: None
Reward: +512 XP, +200 Influence, +2 Power Level

Quest Objectives:

  • Earn enough favor to recruit Loranil
  • Speak to Loranil about joining the Inquisition

There are several quests that take place around the Dalish camp, mostly received from Keeper Hawen. Completing these quests earns favor with Loranil, which will allow you to convince him to join the Inquisition. Do as many of the Dalish quests as you can, then speak to Loranil to complete the quest. It’s recommended that you complete this quest before you take on The Spoils of Desecration quest as completing that quest will make it difficult to earn favor with Loranil. Just make sure he’s part of the Inquisition before you take on that quest.

Quest Objectives:

  • Find the golden halla
  • Herd the halla to the Dalish
  • Return to Ithiren

To begin this quest, speak with Ithiren in the Dalish camp. Head southwest to find the golden halla clearly visible in the plains. Escort the beast back to the Dalish camp, then speak to Ithiren to complete the quest. This can be a little time-consuming, but if you stay with it and continually adjust its path so it’s moving in the correct direction, you’ll have this quest completed before too long.

It’s also important not to attack the golden halla. If any enemies are near the animal, they may attack it as well. Avoid using attacks that hit multiple targets when fighting near the golden halla and don’t let any enemies kill it or you won’t be able to complete the quest.

Quest Objectives:

  • Find Lindiranae’s Talisman
  • Return the talisman to Emalien

The talisman is located to the far south in the Shrine to Sylaise. Stay close to the river as you make your way south. The entrance to the shrine is just beyond the waterfall that has a statue near the top. When you reach the shrine, use a mage to remove the barrier that blocks your path to the talisman. Once you have the item in hand, speak to Emalien again to complete the quest.

  • Find and deliver five bushels of spindleweed
  • Find and deliver ten bushels of elfroot
  • Find and deliver ten pieces of canine leather
  • Find and deliver five pieces of iron

Once you’ve earned enough favor with the Dalish, read Nissa’s ledger to obtain a list of supplies. Most of these supplies you should already have by simply collecting loot as you play through the game, which means you can just check the ledger to move on with the quest. Spindleweed and elfroot are available in abundance in the Hinterlands, as are the wolves that drop canine leather and the iron deposits.

The bears that drop the pelts are located in the Emerald Graves area, which you’ll need to travel to in order to complete this quest. While the beasts can be fearsome, as long as you maintain an active Barrier spell during these battles you will have the hides you need in no time. Check the ledger again to complete the quest.

Make sure you’ve completed the quest, By the Grace of the Dalish before you perform the tasks required in this quest. If you don’t, you will lose considerable favor with the Dalish.

You need to examine the graves in this area to find pieces of the key. Every time you examine a grave, enemies will spawn and attack. Loot the graves and kill the enemies that spawn, then head into the Unadin Grotto to complete the quest.

Go back to the previously blocked path to find that you now have access to the area beyond. Kill the gurguts in the new area to complete the quest.

When you reach the waterfall before the shrine, search the west side of the river to find the viewpoint mentioned in the description.
