Dead By Daylight Finally Reworks Skull Merchant in September Developer Update

3-Gen Skull Merchant is like chess... not for much longer, though.

I don’t know exactly how the developers at Behaviour are planning on re-writing the rules of Chess, but it looks like they’re going to give it everything they’ve got. A recently revealed September Developer update shows that the Dead By Daylight team is taking a lot of recent criticism to heart and reworking plenty of characters, maps, and perks to make the game more accessible and fun for players once more.

The recent controversy regarding the Skull Merchant came to light during a professional match that took a full hour to reach completion due to her ability to 3-Gen survivors with her drones. After the constant waves of memes, jokes, and everything in between on social media and the Dead By Daylight forums, it seems that Behaviour is finally doing something about this.

You can read the full September Developer Update here, but the absolute highlight is the changes coming to this controversial character. To quote the development team:

“Combined, these changes push The Skull Merchant’s drones in a more chase-oriented direction, giving them more immediate consequences when they are triggered rather than slowly building over time. At the same time, her ability to defend generators for excessive lengths of time has also been reduced substantially. We will be keeping a close eye on these changes and making further adjustments as needed.”

This is excellent news, as anyone who has played against the Skull Merchant knows exactly how painful these matches can be. Checking Steam, you can see that she is one of the only DLC packs that has “Mostly Negative” feedback due to how much of a slog she is to face off against. Matches can take over an hour if they know what they’re doing, which means that it’s a death sentence for the Survivors who found themselves stuck dealing with her pesky drones.

With professional Dead by Daylight players weighing in with their opinions on this particular rework, alongside all of the other changes, it seems this could be one of the biggest content changes of all time for Dead by Daylight fans. We can only wait to see if these reworks pan out exactly as they expect, but I know that I’m beyond ready to see what the team is cooking behind the scenes.
