Cult of the Lamb Developers Threaten to Delete the Game in Protest Against Unity

The game could be delisted from stores come 2024.

Unity’s recent announcement in regards to a new policy that aims to have developers pay a fee for a game’s number of installs has been met with huge backlash from the gaming community and developers alike. One of the developers against this new policy is Massive Monster, the creators of the action roguelike game Cult of the Lamb, who have recently threatened to take the game down from stores come January 1st, 2024, as a form of protest against this new policy.

The announcement was made over Twitter (formerly known as X) in a direct response to the announcement of the new measure. It gets straight to the point, telling players to purchase the game now while they still can, as the game is going to be delisted from stores once January 1st comes by.

“Buy Cult of the Lamb now, cause we’re deleting it on Jan 1st,” the tweet reads.

The developers later made a statement on the official Massive Monster account stating that Unity’s measure will impact not only Cult of the Lamb but also Massive Monster’s future projects in the pipeline that were initially planned to be developed in Unity.

“This change would result in significant delays since our team would need to acquire an entirely new skill set,” said Massive Monster’s extended statement while encouraging Unity to “quit being stinky.”

Cult of the Lamb is one of many projects that are currently affected by the new policy. If Unity remains with this course of action, it’s very likely that this fantastic roguelike game will cease to exist entirely. Who knows what other game developers will be forced to do against this new policy?
