Crystal Dynamics Reverses Course On Marvel’s Avengers Paid Experience Boosts

It's about time.

Last month Crystal Dynamics introduced new microtransactions into Marvel’s Avengers that sparked quite an outrage among fans of the game. These new microtransactions offer experience and resource gains for real money.

Today, on the Marvel Avenger’s Twitter account, the team posted an apology for the items being available. You can read the post below.

“We apologize for not responding sooner to your concerns about the addition of paid consumables in the Marketplace. We introduced them as an option for an evolving player-base and did not see them as pay-to-win since they don’t offer power directly.

After considering your feedback, we have decided that by the end of today we will remove Hero’s Catalysts and Fragment Extractors for purchase. They will continue to be earnable rewards and those already owned are still usable.

We hope that this can be the first step in rebuilding your confidence in us as a team.

It continues to be our goal to make the very best game possible. Thank you for being part of the Marvel’s Avengers community.”

Sure, while the microtransactions didn’t give power levels directly, it’s still a bad way to keep your current players happy and offers yet another roadblock for new players entering the space who are already overwhelmed with the inherently flawed systems of the game.

Marvel’s Avengers has had a rocky launch and inconsistent trajectory since launching in 2020. We’re still waiting on Spider-Man to show up for PlayStation Users and the new raid which is launching sometime soon.
