Crucible Is Removing Two Game Modes to Focus On Overhauling Base Game

Crucible launched to less than stellar reviews and Amazon wants to turn that around fast!

Amazon launched their free-to-play shooter Crucible back at the tail end of May to the surprise of many due to low marketing efforts and to say the game didn’t receive the love the company was hoping for would be a massive understatement. In an effort to revamp its development strategy and make Crucible more enjoyable for all, Amazon is removing two out of their modes.

The studio behind Crucible recently released a statement based on player feedback and with all of the information now sorted, they’ve come up with a plan of action regarding what the next step is.

In a recent statement, it was mentioned that Crucible will be dropping two of its three game modes in order to focus on the aspect that players do seem to enjoy: Herat of the Hives. “The community has rallied around Heart of the Hives in an amazing way. Moving forward, we’ll be putting all of our efforts towards Heart of the Hives and what we can do to make that mode shine. Focusing on one mode allows us to refine the design of core systems without the compromises we needed to make to support three game modes. This does mean that we’ll be retiring Harvester Command and Alpha Hunters for the foreseeable future. We’ll be removing Alpha Hunters from the list of game modes soon, and Harvester Command once our new player experience has been improved.”

They also mentioned that the overhaul in progress will comprise of two main phases with the first focusing on revamping and building up the core systems necessary seen in Heart of the Hives and how they can expand upon that experience. “We’re starting the first phase by developing the features we know we need: voice chat, a surrender option, a system to deal with AFK players ruining matches, an expanded ping system, and potentially some form of mini-map. We don’t have an exhaustive list of changes yet, but those are some of our top priorities. While we’re working on adding those features, we’ll also be working on improving framerate, hit feedback, matchmaking, and how we teach the game to new players.”

The second phase will focus on the player feedback revolving around the general perception of the game and what sort of improvements gamers would want to see including improving the system functionality, new creators, and custom games.

This is a work in progress, obviously, for the PC game but hopefully, they can do something to turn this around. We declined to review the game out of public lack of interest and our own inability to really put into words all of the things we perceived as wrong with it, including copy/paste character designs from other games, voice actors that in no way match the characters, and overall lazy game design. But, it looks like Amazon is aware of all of that and is looking to pivot soon. If that will matter in the end remains to be see, but we’ve seen some amazing turnarounds in the past, including No Man’s Sky, so crazier things have happened.
