City of the Wolves Crosses Over With Real Life in Cristiano Ronaldo Teaser Trailer

The guest characters just don't stop

With Street Fighter 6 bringing in Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui as guest characters, it was no surprise that fans began to wonder who from other series would join Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. In a recent trailer, we got our answer, but it wasn’t someone anyone expected: the trailer reveals that world-famous soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo will be included in City of the Wolves in some capacity.

“A legendary player joins a legendary game” is written in the brief 30-second trailer. That, a visual of a soccer field, and a door is all we really get. There is no look at Ronaldo whatsoever. The door with the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves logo is shown receiving a beating, holding back whoever is trying to break through from the other side—presumably Ronaldo. This seems to hint at Ronaldo as a playable character, but it could just as likely be him entering City of the Wolves as a guest of a different sort.

While it may seem like the fighting game crossovers are getting out of hand, with games now featuring guest “characters” from real life, this is hardly the first time real people have “appeared” as themselves in a fighting game. Street Fighter 6 features commentators and celebrity guests as themselves in its real-time commentator feature. It remains to be seen if City of the Wolves will have anything similar, but if it does, Ronaldo could just as easily be a commentator rather than a full-blown fighter. This would also explain why the trailer doesn’t show Ronaldo himself, instead only dropping his name.

It’s also worth noting that the SNK Official YouTube account, which has thus far uploaded all the City of the Wolves character trailers, hasn’t yet uploaded their own version of the “Ronaldo trailer.” If and when the account does upload its own trailer, it may have more information on exactly how Ronaldo will be incorporated into Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Ronaldo, though, has shared the video on his own Instagram account, with the message “Something exciting in the making!” indicating this is the real deal and not an incredibly belated April Fool’s prank.

Until we have more information, Ronaldo’s arrival is one to watch out for. It may signal the addition of commentators, or it may be the beginning of City of the Wolves’s own slew of “crossover” “characters,” going so far as to cross over with real life. With such a silly notion in play, the next silly question naturally becomes: when will real life cross over with Fatal Fury, so that Terry Bogard becomes real?
