To say that Warcraft III: Reforged’s launch was less than stellar would be a massive understatement. Many felt that the re-imagining of the beloved classic “ruined” the RTS experience and was a waste of resources for the team over at Blizzard. While the company has apologized about the launch and issued refunds for those interested, Blizzard president Allen Brack is now speaking even more on the “hard week” that was the Warcraft III: Reforged launch.
“Concerning Warcraft 3: Reforged, honestly, it’s been a bit of a hard week. Our community has come to expect really amazing things from us, and we’ve heard from them that we did not achieve that bar,” said the Blizzard president during a recent Activision investor’s call. “But we stand behind our games and have consistently shown that not only do we support them, but we continue to build on them even after launch. And we’re committed to doing that here as well. We’re going to continue to update the game, and we’re going to continue to update the community with our plans going forward.”
Interestingly enough, the fact that Blizzard is offering refunds speaks volumes for how much this failure very much was not anticipated by the team considering the company is usually very staunch when it comes to issuing refunds for any reason. A new patch just went live today that fixes various animation issues and reported glitches, but Brack mentioned in the call that they aren’t even close to being “done” and are going to do everything in their power to make Warcraft III: Reforged something Blizzard fans can be proud to play.
If you’re one of those players looking for a refund, here’s what Blizzard had to say earlier this week:
“Blizzard stands by the quality of our products and our services. Normally we set limits for refund availability on a game, based on time since purchase and whether it has been used,” reads a previously posted support message.
“However we want to give players the option of a refund if they feel that Warcraft 3: Reforged does not provide the experience they wanted. So, we’ve decided to allow refunds upon request for the time being. You may request a refund here on our Support Site.”
While we obviously hope for a resolution to this for both the sake of the consumers and the company itself, it seems that Blizzard is continuously digging themselves into a hole that we’re not quite sure they will be able to climb out of anytime soon.
