Irrational Games’ Ken Levine informed us today that Bioshock Infinite, originally set to arrive on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 16, will not meet that release date.  Instead, the game will hit store shelves on February 26, 2013.

“When we announced the release date of Bioshock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing.  Since then, we’ve uncovered opportunities to make Infinite into something even more extraordinary,” said Levine.  “Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need to deliver the best Infinite possible, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February.”

Levine confirmed that the game would not be shown either at that event or the upcoming Gamescom, as his team wants to surprise everyone with the game before its release next year.

We’re looking forward to more information as the team continues to work on one of the biggest titles on everyone’s wishlist.
