A Classic WoW Dungeon is About to Get a Revamp

Once more, unto the Crusade.

Ever since World of Warcraft’s Mists of Pandaria expansion, a classic dungeon has been forever lost to time. I’m talking, of course, about Scarlet Monastery. This fan-favorite dungeon was redone for the expansion with a new layout, new bosses, and new drops. Unfortunately, this meant the old version became inaccessible. But things might be about to change.

World of Warcraft: the Scarlet Monastery of Old

In the newest build of the PTR for patch 10.1.7, there are some (literal) key hints at the return of the “classic” Scarlet Monastery:

The Scarlet Key – retrace the steps of those who came before

Scarlet Monastery of Old – Grants access to Scarlet Monastery of Old for all characters on your account.

Those are.. pretty obvious, right? We’re clearly getting some sort of re-introduction of the classic Scarlet Monastery dungeon, but whether that means a true 1-to-1 recreation of it and its mechanics, or another “Return to Karazhan” type revamp remains to be seen. I guess having two separate redux versions would be a bit silly, so I’m expecting a more faithful adaptation.

This new, old version of Scarlet Monastery will likely drop with Patch 10.1.7 on September 5, or with the Secrets of Azeroth Event on August 30. There’s also the Holiday event revamp coming in 10.1.7, so this adaptation may be a part of Hallow’s End as well (after all, you do fight the Headless Horseman in the Monastery courtyard).

In case you haven’t been playing much recently, Blizzard have added a whole new Megadungeon, a brand new Evoker specialization, and more. The content has been rolling and shows no signs of slowing down, so now’s as good a time as any to jump back in.
