World of Warcraft. I’ve been playing since vanilla and am currently enthralled back into the hell that is World of Warcraft Classic. But while I’m slowing killing things that don’t ever frickin’ drop what they are supposed to, I’m still enjoying the weird and tumultuous story that is World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth. With the latest update, a lot of changes are happening on both the Alliance and the Horde side and with a pretty major whoopsie, the leadership for the Horde may just induct a fan favourite.

Major Battle for Azeroth Spoilers Ahead

The gist of what happens at the end of the Battle for Azeroth War Campaign is that the coward … er, I mean orc named Saurfang falls after betraying Sylvanas after he felt the Horde became something than what it was meant to be. But he didn’t go down without a fight and he definitely spilled the tea when exposing Sylvanas’ cold attitude toward the Horde which ultimately cost her a lot of followers. A lot, a lot.

Once the jig was up and her true objective was seen by all, she hit it and quit it by draining Saurfang’s life force before flying off into the sun or wherever she chose to go while ultimately abandoning her title as Warchief. This action, and the actions leading up to it, leaves a huge vacuum of power, one that Thrall could easily fill.

Following the tense battle, both the Horde and the Alliance met up in Orgimmar to pay tribute to Saurfang, a figure that also worked with the Alliance once he chose where his honor and duty lied. Following the Alliance’s ultimate departure from the ceremony, questions of who will succeed the Dark Queen’s mantle became apparent. For those following World of Warcraft’s story thus far, Thrall is back in Orgimmar and fits the bill to the T. Seeing him take charge while sending off Saurfang into the afterlife also gave Horde players a chance to see his true style in action.

He’s already been the leader of the Horde, he’s already won the hearts of Horde players like myself, and though this character has made some critical missteps along the way, it seems fairly obvious where Blizzard intends to go next despite the wrench thrown into the cycle by splitting up leadership.

With Sylvanas total betrayal, the Horde finally decided “hmm, maybe total dictatorship ISN’T the way to go, whodathunkit,” which means Thrall – as poised as he is – may not be alone in his leadership role. It definitely looks like Blizzard is pitting longtime loyalists against progressives in Orgimmar, which makes future content updates for Battle for Azeroth all the more exciting.

What do you think? Should they stick with one warchief, or is it time for a change? Or do you agree with some of the murmurs that an Alliance leader should take hold of the Horde? Hit us up with your thoughts over on Twitter @PrimaGames
