DOOM Eternal did not have the smoothest launch in recent gaming history, but that has not stopped the developers from continuing to grind and make all of the glorious action even better. That said, the teams at id Software and Bethesda have revealed the game’s upcoming expansion, The Ancient Gods, Part One.
During the QuakeCon 2020 opener, Bethesda announced the first part of a multi-installment DLC for DOOM Eternal with a brand new teaser trailer. Of course, with it being a teaser, not a ton of details are revealed, but we do get a taste of what is ahead for our favorite Slayer. Despite the video lacking information about said upcoming DLC, we get a look at what appears to be a new angelic enemy or even possible mini-boss.

As for The Ancient Gods, Part One, we do know a few things. The first installment of the upcoming DLC will take place right after the events of the main DOOM Eternal campaign, and now that power is a bit out of whack, it is up to the Slayer to clean things up. “Hell was ripped, heaven was torn, and the Slayer’s legend grew,” game director Hugo Martin said during the presentation. “Your rampage of destruction saved humanity from extinction, but it came at a cost. Now there’s an imbalance of power in the heavens, and the true ruler of the Doom universe must rise to set things right. It’s all very cool, very comic book.”
Not much else is known about the upcoming DOOM Eternal expansion at this time, but it’s always good to know that more ripping and tearing are on the way with new content. Players have spent quite some time battling the demons of hell, so it only makes sense that we are destined to go in the other direction. The Ancient Gods, Part One does not have a release date at this time, but a full trailer is expected to premiere during Opening Night Live on August 27th. We shall hopefully learn more then.
As for DOOM Eternal itself, the game is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch port set to arrive at a later date. If it’s more DOOM Eternal goodness that you are after, look no further than our game hub!
