Videogames’ Stuff and Things: DXRacer Craft Series Caming Chair (Hello Human Cat design)

You ever think about what it’s like to write about a chair? Sounds silly, right? I don’t know if I ever saw myself in this situation, but regardless I found myself responsible for this specific thing. I was offered one of DXRacer’s new Craft Series chairs, and my general outlook in this business is to try anything at least once. This chair is a significant upgrade to what I had before, and I can vouch the most for its back support. Not the friendliest seat, however. Obviously, it looks awesome.

DXRacer Craft Series Gaming Chair Review

First of all, putting this thing together was shockingly easy. When I got my first “gaming chair,” it took what felt like hours to put everything together. And it wasn’t the best chair in the world either. The DXRacer, which was the bright pink Hello Human Cat design by the way (it rules), was set up before I knew it. The chair comes half assembled already, with only a few screws and pieces to snap together on the user end. I had this chair out of its box and in my office ready to go in less than an hour.

Aesthetically, this chair is awesome. The image printing looks great, especially with the Hello Cat design doing the “cat ripping open the fabric” gimmick. It looks like a regular part of the chair instead of some kind of fabricy decal that’ll eventually wear off. The pink itself is bright and solid too; there’s nothing really cheap or plasticy about it. DXRacer’s chair looks as sturdy as it feels. It also made my wife make a loud noise with her face that seemed positive, so bonus points for that.

For the most part that’s a great thing! The chair’s back is straight and solid, with an incline function that’s easy to control and doesn’t give much. As someone who fights bad posture, I could feel this chair forcing my spine into its proper position. Like, in a good way! The neck pillow, which comes as a separate part with a stretchy band for adjusting, feels great too. Also, the arm rests are “4D,” which sounds silly but these are the most adjustable arm rests I’ve ever seen! They can go up and down, side to side, back and forth… wild.

Despite all the good parts, this DXRacer chair doesn’t do as well below the belt. The lumbar support is fine, but feels like it doesn’t quite fit or cave to your body enough. And the actual seat is just as stiff as the rest of the chair. It certainly feels like it’ll resist damage and keep your posture tight, but it also isn’t comfortable to sit on for more than a few minutes. Unfortunately, this one will probably require some extra padding to get the most out of it.

The appeal here is definitely the cool design work, as far as separating the Craft Series from DXRacer’s other offerings. There are several different options, and you can even get your own made (with caveats such as minimum order numbers, so it seems more intended for groups/organizations). But even without your own need for custom design work, you’ll still end up with a high quality chair with a unique style. The seat isn’t as comfy as I’d like, but the support is there and an extra pad or something does the trick.

The DXRacer Craft Series is available now, at a retail price of $479. Eight designs are offered in total, which includes a Guild Wars 2 design that’s “coming soon.” For disclosure, one of these chairs was sent to me in exchange for this review coverage.
