Stop Debating and Buy a Wii U

You need Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3 and more in your life.

People who closely follow the video game industry saw Nintendo’s recent financials.  Plenty of armchair analysts have their opinions and that’s fine. We’re not here to discuss numbers. Instead, we want you to buy a Wii U because it’s a great system. The thought of purchasing one probably creeps into your head each time the company releases a cool-looking game or makes an announcement. Maybe you want Bayonetta 2, or like the idea of playing Super Mario 3D World on the GamePad while someone else watches TV. Whatever the reason, you still don’t own the console and that needs to change.

If it has anything to do with a price drop, we can’t help you there. It could take months and even a year before Nintendo carves a few bucks off the $299 asking price. Of course, if you’re on the verge of spending that kind of cash, one of these reasons may convince you to splurge.

Buy Mario Kart 8, get a Free Game

Mario Kart 8 is a visual showpiece for the Wii U hardware and a fine game. You’ll want to make it part of your Wii U collection when it arrives May 30th, and Nintendo will sweeten the deal by giving you a free downloadable game. Buy it and register with Club Nintendo, then choose one of the following titles: Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD or Wii Party U. Now you have two games. This also works if you pick up the sweet-looking Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle.

Just make sure you do this before July 30th, 2014.  As for the bundle, this is the perfect way to begin your Wii U collection; it’ll sell for $329.99. Prima also has the official Mario Kart 8 guide if you need tips.

Plenty of Cheap Wii U Games to Buy

You can add to your growing Wii U collection without breaking the bank, courtesy of Amazon.  Right now, you can grab ZombieU ($14.50), Assassin’s Creed 3 ($14.09), Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate ($22.29) and Need for Speed Most Wanted U ($24.49) without slamming your wallet.  Then connect the Wii U to the Internet and visit the eShop for games like NES Remix 2 ($14.99) and Child of Light ($14.99), among others.

The Nostalgic Virtual Console

We can hear the critics now. “We have to buy the original Super Mario Bros. again!?” We get it, Nintendo re-releases games from its back catalogue and some people don’t want to shell out money for the same titles, but this doesn’t apply to everyone. Perhaps you grew up with the NES and/or Super Nintendo and gravitated towards Sony’s PlayStation systems. You’ll have a blast replaying games from your childhood like Super Mario Bros. 3, Ninja Gaiden and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, as well as some Game Boy Advance hits you may have missed. The Wii U virtual console is by no means as packed as the Wii edition, but there’s bound to be several favorites you’ll want to download.

All those Exclusive Nintendo Games

The Wii U is the perfect compliment to a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, primarily because of the first-party Nintendo games you can’t play anywhere else. Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3 and more will keep you busy for months, and there are several new titles on the way, including two more Zelda games, one of which was inspired by Dynasty Warriors. We’ve also heard rumblings of a Skylanders-style game, but with Nintendo figurines; Mario being the first of course. Finally, the new Super Smash Bros. It speaks for itself.

The GamePad is Both Convenient and Comfortable

PS4 fans already enjoy the benefit of playing games on PS Vita while someone watches TV. You get the same feature with the Wii U via the bundled GamePad. Seamlessly switch back and forth between TV and GamePad screen. Most games are compatible, and you’ll enjoy lightning fast gameplay providing you’re within range of the system.
