Prima Staff | End of the Week Recap

So many pre-orders… so many.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Hello again, it’s me, Prima’s EIC and resident sleep paralysis demon. I thought it’d be fun to start doing a weekly feature where the team looks back at some of the interesting events that took place that week.

Sort of like an “in case you missed it” with a few cant-miss articles along with our thoughts and opinions thrown in to help spice things up a bit.

With that out of the way, here’s the very first End of the Week Recap!

Did you get an Xbox Series X and/or PS5 pre-order?

Yep! Pretty painlessly too. I definitely got lucky.

What pre-order was more of a pain, Series X or PS5?

For the Series X I just happened to get on Amazon fast enough, so no problems there. I also got into the PS5 lottery gimmick, which was smooth too. The whole situation around the PS5 was pretty stressful, though.

Did you pre-order any games or accessories for either?

Does Game Pass count? Otherwise no, I’m mostly just excited for backwards compatibility.

Thoughts on Microsoft buying Bethesda for $7.5 billion?

Aside from major corporate acquisitions being bad news in general, I don’t care that much. As long as MachineGames still gets to do its thing I’ll be happy.

Favorite piece on the site this week and why?

To put myself over a bit, I had a ton of fun trying something a bit different for my Super Mario 3D All-Stars review. But I also love how distraught Jesse was over fishing in Hades.

What are you playing this weekend?

I’ll probably bounce between different stuff because ADHD be like that, but my main funsies projects right now are Octopath Traveler on Switch, and Lunar: Silver Star Story for PlayStation. I also usually get some Minecraft Dungeons time in with my kid. We’re trying to get all the achievements… eventually.

What are you watching this weekend?

I need to go and finish Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, but I’ll probably end up just watching some Star Trek with my wife.

Doing anything else interesting or exciting this weekend?

Does wallowing in existential dread count?

Did you get an Xbox Series X and/or PS5 pre-order?

I did end up getting both because I have zero self-control.

What pre-order was more of a pain, Series X or PS5?

Xbox for sure. Not that it was particularly hard, but similar to Lucas I got into the PlayStation 5 lottery so that was very easy. The Xbox Series X was more difficult because I sat there trying to figure out if I even wanted to get one, so that’s on me.

Did you pre-order any games or accessories for either?

I did end up pre-ordering Demon’s Souls and Spider-Man Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. I already have a Game Pass subscription so I’ll play whatever is on that when the Xbox releases.

Thoughts on Microsoft buying Bethesda for $7.5 billion?

My biggest gripe with this is that they dropped the news at 9 am on a Monday. Otherwise, it makes sense, Xbox struggles in Japan so it’s clear that they are doubling down on their foothold in the west. Also hopefully some of that money can go to fixing their broken engine.

Favorite piece on the site this week and why?

That’s a tough one. I’ve loved so many of the pieces from everyone on the site this week. We did all get to work on the collaborative Hades Tips guide which was really fun and certainly worth checking out.

What are you playing this weekend?

Unsure. I finally saw credits on Hades earlier this week so I might do some cleanup on that before putting it on the shelf. Other than that I might try some more Escape from Tarkov with a friend who just got his very first gaming PC.

What are you watching this weekend?

I have a few more episodes of Umbrella Academy to finish as well as the new episode of The Boys that released today. Otherwise, I’ll just catch up on the Giantbomb content I missed this week.

Doing anything else interesting or exciting this weekend?

Guesting on a friend’s podcast tonight which should be a lot of fun and then probably just playing games and hanging out with my roommate.

Did you get an Xbox Series X and/or PS5 pre-order?

Yes, though some form of sorcery I was able to pre-order the Series X and the PS5. No console wars for me, I just want the newest, shiniest gaming boxes.

What pre-order was more of a pain, Series X or PS5?

The PS5, absolutely the PS5. GameStop’s site wouldn’t work, I was refreshing Best Buy for ages, it was a nightmare. I did not get into the PS5 lottery, I feel very rejected lol.

Huge kudos and thanks to Wario64 whose Twitter updates kept me sane and helped me keep track of when pre-orders were going live at various retailers for both consoles.

Did you pre-order any games or accessories for either?

I actually haven’t… I want to for a few things, like an extra PS5 controller, but I keep forgetting. It’s fine, they’ll be available in-store, and it’s fun to browse.

Thoughts on Microsoft buying Bethesda for $7.5 billion?

It’s a smart decision, even smarter to announce right before pre-orders went live. I think Microsoft might take advantage of the situation and make (some) future games exclusives, but only because that’s what I’d do if I spent $7.5 billion.

I also feel worse for the people who got the shaft at Mixer, I think more could’ve been done with it, and we see now that Microsoft probably had the money to do more with it. RIP, Mixer.

Favorite piece on the site this week and why?

All of them, if I had to pick, I love the Xbox pieces from Jesse, and I love the Mario review from Lucas. I also really loved writing about the accidental One X pre-orders and going down that weird rabbit hole of information.

What are you playing this weekend?

Hades, Among Us, replaying Resident Evil 7, and as always, Tetris 99.

What are you watching this weekend?

I don’t want much in the way of TV and movies. I have been working my way through Schitt’s Creek though. Highly recommend that series.
