Letter From The Editor – Farewell For Now

You didn’t think I’d leave without saying goodbye, did you?

I’m not sure if it’s customary or overkill for an editor to announce their departure like this, but regardless, I’m leaving Prima and wanted to say a few things before I go. Knowing me, a “few things” will likely turn into several long-winded paragraphs, but I’ll try my best to keep it short.

I haven’t been a part of Prima Games for very long, not when you take into account how long Prima itself has been around. That long-lived legacy of Prima is something truly special, and I’m honored to have been a small part of it, even if only for a short time.

I’m also honored to have worked with some incredible people at Prima from former Editor-in-Chief Liana Ruppert who advocated for me at every turn, to today’s Prima Teama, Jesse and Lucas, and talented freelancers like Juno Stump and James Bentley. Plus many, many others.

Truthfully, I’ve never really thought of myself as an Editor-in-Chief here, but rather the three of us together (myself, Jesse, and Lucas) as equal EICs. We all love this site and want to see it succeed, and have all worked incredibly hard amidst a myriad of disadvantages and surprise curve balls thrown our way.

Even when I’m no longer here sharing my love of indies and Tetris, I’ll still be cheering the site on and supporting the team.

Think of me like a basketball fan up in the bleachers with a foam finger on one hand and a cup of beer in the other cheering and yelling out, “Let’s goooooooooo!” at the top of my lungs. It sounds cheesy, but I mean it.

I believe in this site, and I believe in the team. Always have, always will. My leaving isn’t because of lack of faith or discontentment, but because I’ve been struggling with my mental health for the last few months (on a personal level) and need to take a step back.

I have the tendency to let negative thoughts about myself and my work consume me like a snake that eats its own tail, ouroboros style. It’s exhausting, and is something I’m working on sorting out, one step at a time. Not all of the steps are easy, this step away from Prima included.

However, if it leads me to a place where I can be healthier, happier, in a better place to support Prima from the sidelines, and do good work for my next place of employment, it’ll have been worth it. So even though I’ll no longer be a part of the Prima Teama, I’ll forever be a fan of the work Jesse and Lucas do, and of Prima Games past, present, and future.

Not sure how to end this so I’ll just say to everyone in general… be happy, take care of yourself, drink lots of water, get lots of rest, and if ever in doubt, trust your intuition.
