If You’re A Dirty Cheater Like Me, Don’t Update TOTK To Version 1.1.2.

We've been duped again...

The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a spectacular time. The world is larger than it has ever been before, and with so many new things to see and do, it’s easy to get sidetracked and forget that you’re supposed to be saving the Princess once again. No matter if you’re building the next Metal Gear inside of the world of Hyrule, or just trying to get your favorite armor set bumped up to the max stats, finding the right materials, and Rupees for that matter, can be stupidly hard.

A little while back, we covered a recently discovered duplication glitch that was extremely easy to pull off. All you needed to do was some inventory management, and drop some items while gliding off of a small surface. You could rack up hundreds of Diamonds with ease, and max out your rupees to the fullest amount.

When Did The Dupe Glitch Get Patched Out?

Nintendo stepped in and released a new patch on May 25, 2023, making it so players who have quit Tears of the Kingdom get treated to a new automatic update. This effectively destroyed this exploit, alongside the slightly more difficult arrow duplication glitch that was being used. Essentially, if you stopped playing and quit the game recently, there is a very good chance that you’re not going to be able to partake in this, admittedly, dirty tactic anymore. As Nintendo put it in their most recent Patch Notes:

“Several issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience.”

But, if you’re anything like me, you haven’t even thought about playing anything else on your Switch as of late. You’ve just been playing Tears of the Kingdom and disregarding any semblance of a sleep schedule, grinding for items to fatten up your wallet and make Link unstoppable in the face of adversity. And I’m happy to admit, I’ve been duping items like there is no tomorrow. I’ve got a busy life, so I can’t spend 10 weeks grinding for Diamonds to upgrade my favorite armor.

Unfortunately, if you’ve been hit with the 1.1.2 Update, the only way that you’re going to be able to revert to a previous software version is by fully resetting your Nintendo Switch console. For those that are grinding non-stop, this may honestly be a godsend, as the game will not retain the newest update… if you have a Physical Cartridge, that is.

The second you redownload the software from the eShop, you’ll be on the most current version. This means you’re out of luck if you have a Digital Copy of TOTK and your dupe status is gone forever. Take a lesson from me: never close out of a game when the glitches are this good. There are still a few glitches that are helping players out, but those are mainly tied to the physics engine, so they’ll likely be in for quite a while.

Hopefully, you got your hands on everything you needed while the getting was good. Who knows, at this point, there’s a good chance that a new item duplication glitch will be found, as players are still discovering little tricks about Breath of the Wild six years after its initial release. At least, we can only hope, right?

Even if our favorite glitch has been removed, make sure that you’re checking out our Tears of the Kingdom section down below. From finding your favorite village to some impressive armor for delving into the Depths, we’ve got just about everything covered for this massive new Zelda game.
