Opening Ceremony

If you only plan to watch one event at Blizzcon 2018, it has to be the opening ceremony. Every year almost every big announcement comes during the opening ceremony. A lot of people are hoping to get a glimpse of the new Diablo projects Blizzard is working on. There’s a very high probability that most, if not all, of these projects will be announced during the opening ceremony. We’ll also see any new characters and events for Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch. If there’s a big announcement to be made about any of the big Blizzard titles, it’s almost certain to happen during the opening ceremony.

Esports

Blizzcon starts on Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 at the Anaheim Convention Center. But that’s not the real start of Blizzcon activities. Running from October 25 through October 29, the preliminary rounds of the various esports events will kick off. The later rounds of these esports events will take place during Blizzcon, but if you’re a big Blizzard esports fan, your Blizzcon starts in late October.

Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft and Overwatch will all have an esports presence at Blizzcon. Each game will have what is essentially a world final at Blizzcon. WoW Arena will have a fresh presence at Blizzcon this year thanks to the new expansion. The meta has yet to settle, which means there’s a lot of unknown factors going into Blizzcon, which should make for an exciting finals.

With the inaugural season of Overwatch League out of the way, the finals for the Overwatch World Cup will take place at Blizzcon 2018. Meanwhile, Starcraft 2 and Heroes of the Storm could both see teams and players from around the globe take down the South Koreans. Historically, South Korea has dominated both games, but this year there’s a good amount of competition that could easily result in a different champion.

Panels

If you’re a big fan of individual Blizzard titles, the in-depth panels that take place both days of the event are for you. You’ll find deep dives for every game, as well as panels that cover the development that goes on behind the scenes. You can get insight into the development process to understand why changes or additions happen in the Blizzard games you love.
