Sackboy: A Big Adventure

  • Number of players: 1-4
  • Split-screen: N/A

Sackboy: A Big Adventure, a spin-off of the renowned PlayStation sandbox Little Big Planet, is a classic 3D platformer that supports up to four players on the same screen. This is the closest thing to playing Mario 3D World on the PlayStation console – the entire game is designed to be experienced in this way as level design frequently requires collaboration. With no way to separate the view, running on the same screen with three friends will usually result in many hilarious situations.

It Takes Two

  • Number of players: 1-2
  • Split-screen: Vertical

It Takes Two, the co-op title that won numerous game of the year 2021 accolades including the most prestigious one at last year’s The Game Awards, taught us how to settle marital difficulties through the power of video games. It is designed to be played by two people and cannot be played alone, as the title implies – It Takes Two. You need to find a way to work together to overcome all the creative levels and bosses in this fantastic co-op. If you can, play it with a significant other – just be sure that they know the basics of platform games.

DIRT 5

  • Number of players: 1-4
  • Split-screen: Vertical or Horizontal

The newest DIRT has put this series of exciting off-road racing back on track! DIRT 5 has undoubtedly discovered the correct balance of arcade fun and spectacle. Powering through career mode is a lot of fun on your own, but taking part in chaotic races with up to three other players in split-screen is absolute madness. You can divide the screen exactly the way you want and play as two, three, or four people in total. The excellent engine of DIRT 5 and the power of the PlayStation 5 allow it to look and perform amazingly, even in the four-way split-screen mode.

Gran Turismo 7

  • Number of players: 1-2
  • Split-screen: Vertical

Another excellent driving game that deserves a spot on our list; Gran Turismo 7 recently released exclusively on the PlayStation and reminded us why we love automobiles and car culture in general. This one is for all the racing fans that prefer a somewhat more serious approach to driving simulation. In addition to a great new career mode and tons of side content for solo enjoyment with a steering wheel or DualSense in hand, GT7 also features a local split-screen for two players. To unlock this mode, you’ll need to go through a few initial menus from GT Cafee mode, but when it becomes available you will have unlimited access to two-player fun. The split-screen mode is specific because the image is much smaller so that all other important information would fit on the screen for both players – if you have a large TV, this will not be a big problem.

Call of Duty: Vanguard

  • Number of players: 1-2
  • Split-screen: Horizontal

The latest Call of Duty sent us back to World War II and although the single-player story is still limited to one player, all other modes can be experienced in co-op vertical split-screen with another person in the same room. Numerous multiplayer modes such as quick play, team deathmatch, domination, patrol, western front, and champion hill are available to play split-screen. Another player can easily jump in by turning on a second controller and logging in to PlayStation even as a guest, directly from the main menu.
