8 Things GTA 6 Trailer Gets Right About Florida

Sunshine, chaos, and gators galore. What could be more Florida?

Grand Theft Auto is known for its high-octane chaos, and there’s no place more chaotic than Florida. And the Grand Theft Auto trailer might be the most faithful parody of the Sunshine State we’ve ever seen. Here are six things the GTA 6 Trailer gets right about Florida.

8 Things GTA 6 Trailer Takes From Florida Culture

I love living in Florida, but there’s no denying that it’s the most unhinged state. We’ve got gators, we’ve got criminals, we’ve got muscle cars, and babes on beaches. And when it comes to GTA 6’s trailer, we’ve got no shortage of real-life inspiration from Florida.

The Florida Joker

Florida Man is essentially a cryptid at this point. But it has nothing to do with what might be in the water or the sun baking his brains. Florida Man is simply a byproduct of the Sunshine Law, which guarantees public access to Florida’s government documents and proceedings. That’s why we know oh-so-much about Florida’s colorful criminal underbelly.

And that includes the Florida Joker, who likely inspired the mug shot in the trailer. The man pictured isn’t even the only Florida Joker who was immediately sent back to jail after being released. In fact, there are two Miami Florida Jokers who fit that bill. Florida Man just really loves facial tattoos and committing crimes, I guess.

Gators in Pools and Convenience Stores

There’s a saying in Florida. If there’s water, there’s an alligator. That puddle of water might be the drainage ditch in front of your driveway or the pool in your backyard. If it’s wet, there’s a chance a gator’s slithered on in.

In fact, if you leave the lanai door open, you’re practically begging for a gator to take a swim. And a cursory search can show you dozens of pictures of alligators being dragged out of pools in Florida. It’s a summer past time at this point.

Likewise, a few years ago, a man brought an alligator into a convenience store on a beer run in Jacksonville, Florida. The alligator didn’t enter on its own volition, but Florida Man did chase people around the convenience store with the lizard in hand. Despite this being a fantastic prank, the gator-wielding criminal was too drunk to remember the incident.

Similarly, another Florida Man tossed an alligator through a Wendy’s drive-thru window. Wherever you go, expect alligators.

Old Men Wearing as Little as Possible

Florida attracts all types. And, unfortunately, one of those types is old men who love to enjoy the weather wearing the tiniest of trunks.

Usually, you’ll see them stretching their legs on the plentiful beaches. But watering their lawns at 6 AM isn’t out of the question, either.

Naked Criminals Trying to Evade the Law

Following the trend of “clothing’s optional” that Floridians love, we’ve got naked criminals next.

In the summer of 2023, a Florida Man made headlines by ramming into several cars, screaming, “I am butt naked at the police,” and then attempting to elude police officers. We’ve also had a naked man assault an officer that same summer on Miami Beach. For the sake of your eyes, I won’t be including pictures.

And while the trailer demonstrates a man wearing a speedo as he evades the cops, I’m sure the developers wished they could have had him naked instead.

Reckless Driving and Car Wrecks

Another time-honored tradition is ignoring all safety laws on the road. Speeding, reckless behavior, and car crashes are par for the course. So, seeing a car careening down what looks like I-95 into downtown Miami with a woman popping out the top of a convertible really is perfectly suited to Florida.

So is the wreck, later in the trailer. There’s a reason why Florida has one of the highest car insurance rates in the USA.

There’s No Place Like Miami

The GTA 6 trailer is a love letter to Miami. There’s Wynwood, Ocean Beach, Club Space, South Beach, and women twerking on cars.

There’s so much of Miami packed into this one trailer that it’s hard to know where to start. But one good place is the fact that in 2021, things came to a head when women started twerking on police cars. It was a wild night that led to 120 arrests and plenty of pepperspray.

And that’s not even the first time that’s happened. In 2017, a video went viral of a woman twerking atop a Miami beach police ATV, and another woman twerked on top of a car driving on the MacArthur Causeway. Miami is truly a magical place.

Car Culture Like Nowhere Else

There’s a lot of love for cars in Miami. And that extends to more than just muscle cars parked alongside the beach.

We’ve got drag racing (which Justin Bieber got arrested for in 2014), but more unique to Miami is the dirt bike riders, who roll into the city once or twice a year. Dirt bike riders usually hit the streets in swarms, shutting down intersections and expressways while pulling stunts and running red lights.

Usually, we’ll get a few dozen arrests, but that hasn’t stymied this time-honored tradition.

Put a Little Dirt on It

If you prefer your off-road vehicles to be a little bigger than dirt bikes, Florida has you covered. Mudding is a Southern sport that lets you take your big, all-terrain vehicle off-road through wet fields, streams, or wet fields to get it as dirty as possible.

Usually, you do this as drunk as possible. And just to make it even more American, of course, you’ve got to have the blonde in a star-spangled bikini and cut-off shorts. Plus a few dozen American flags waving from every available surface.
