Before you can start finding armor trims, it’s important to make sure you’re in the right version. If you want to try them out before 1.20 releases, you’ll have to boot up an experimental snapshot version. Below are the steps to doing this:

  • In your Minecraft Launcher, go into Installations and check the Snapshots box.
  • Create a new installation for the latest snapshot if you don’t have one already.
  • Select the snapshot and press play to load up Minecraft.
  • When you create a new world, head into Data Packs and bring the update_1_20 and bundle files over to Selected. Doing this enables you to use 1.20 features, including armor trims!

Once this is all done, you’ll have an experimental world where you can use armor trims! Now, the search begins.
