How to Get Friend Balls in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

There are a number of different types of Pokeballs in most Pokemon games, and Scarlet and Violet are no exception. One of the very useful types of special Pokeballs is the Friend Ball, with which it is possible to make wild Pokemon friendly towards the trainer. Pokemon you catch with a Friend Ball will immediately get a friendship rating of 150. Neat, right? But can you get those Friend Balls in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

In order to get ahold of Friend Balls in Scarlet and Violet, there are several methods, let’s check them all out.

Method 1 – Fill in your Pokedex with 260 Pokemon

You can get a Friend Ball as a reward when you collect 260 different Pokemon in your Pokedex. When you have enough numbers, look at the Rewards Menu in the Pokedex application to find it and claim it.

Method 2 – Win it at Porto Marinada Auctions

Another method involves auctions in the market area of Porto Marinada. These auctions will unlock only after you complete the Cascarrafa Gym Challenge. However, it is not 100% a sure thing that you will always find a Friend Ball in the auction because the items available there randomly change after a while. If you’re really impatient, you can turn off the game and move the time on the Switch forward by an hour or two. Once you finally see the Friendship Ball posted in the auctions, you need to have the highest bid to claim it.

Method 3 – Get it as a Reward in Academy Ace Tournament

The final way to win the Friend Ball is by winning the Academy Ace Tournament. In order to enter this tournament at all, you must first complete the entire game. By winning this tournament, you get many useful items, among which can be the Friend Ball. The good thing is that you can grind it, but this method is only useful for post-game Friend Ball collecting.
