What is the Power Maul in Warhammer 40K: Darktide? – Answered

While Warhammer 40K: Darktide launched with a massive amount of weapons for players to try out, Ogryn players were left a bit empty-handed. With many of its weapons being variants of one another, some, including us, feel the Ogryn is quite shorthanded on tools. That, and the Battle Maul and Slab Shield outclasses every other melee weapon in the game. Thankfully, next week that will change with two new weapons. One of these weapons has left a bit of confusion for players, though. Here’s what the Power Maul is in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.

What is the Achlys Mk I Power Maul in Darktide?

As compared to the Crusher weapon, the Power Maul has a lot of information to work off of. As shown in the Ogryn Spotlight trailer, the Power Maul is a maul similar to the Ogryn’s shield weapon, though with a shocking twist. Its light and heavy attacks are standard for a maul, though its special attack charges up the maul, allowing the Ogryn to dish out some shocking pain and likely much higher damage. This will likely make it a solid mix of cleave and single-target damage, something the Ogryn is severely lacking in melee weapons.

While this helps melee weapons a lot, it’s our hope that we see more ranged options for the Ogryn in the future. While it does have the single-round shotgun and grenade launcher, both are outclassed by any chosen variant of the Ripper Gun. The Heavy Stubber and Grenadier Gauntlet aren’t terrible options either, but still, feel weaker than what the Ripper Gun can dish out. If we could see some more heavy-ranged weapons, and preferably ones without single-round magazines, that would be awesome. It’ll likely be a while before that happens, though.
