How to Fix the Out of Memory Error in Warhammer 40K: Darktide

How do I download more memory?

Warhammer 40K: Darktide is finally available on PC across both Steam and the Windows Store (mainly for Game Pass). If you’re hungering a bit of heretic slaying with your friends, there’s no better place than the game’s hive city of Tertium. Before properly enjoying the slaughter, you need to have the game function as expected. One error is getting heavily in the way of that, though there are thankfully a few fixes. Here’s how to fix the Out of Memory error in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.

The Out of Memory error tends to appear for players not in the lobby, and not when normally traversing a level. Instead, it tends to pop up right as things get heated up, and grenades start being thrown. This extra set of particle effects, combined with the immense amount of enemies on screen at once, tends to cause the Out of Memory error for most players. Thankfully, you aren’t completely in the dark.

As it stands, there are two fixes available online. The first comes right from many players who suggest that you update your GPU drivers. More recent GPU drivers have optimizations specifically for Darktide, so having those ready to go should help you a ton. If that doesn’t work, Fatshark has its own potential fix, which we have the steps for below:

  1. Navigate to Control Panel > System and Security
  2. Select ‘System’
  3. Select ‘Advanced system settings’
  4. Under the ‘Advanced’ tab, select the ‘Settings’ button underneath ‘Performance’
  5. Select the ‘Advanced’ tab
  6. Select the ‘Change’ button underneath ‘Virtual memory’
  7. Ensure the ‘Automatically Manage Paging File Size for All Drives’ checkbox is marked
  8. Restart your PC

One of these two fixes should help you get into the game and get back to slaughtering heretics. Hopefully, with a bit more memory this time.
