When playing Phasmophobia, you’ll need to narrow down which spirit is currently haunting the dwelling you’re investigating. This can take on many different forms and you’ll need to use every tool in your arsenal. One of the main ways to tell what type of ghost is residing in the home is with the thermometer. Here is what freezing temperatures are in Phasmophobia.
What are Freezing Temperatures in Phasmophobia
In Phasmophobia you’ll be able to tell if freezing temperatures are a possibility if you begin to see your player’s breath. If you notice that, you should grab a thermometer from the truck and bring it into the room. You’ll need to check what degrees it reads in order to tell what the temp is. If you notice 3 degrees celsius during clear skies that are considered freezing temperatures. Zero degrees during any other weather is also classified as freezing.
Below you can find the list of ghosts that are identified by freezing temperatures:
- Demon
- Hantu
- Jinn
- Moroi
- Oni
- Onryo
- Revenant
- Shade
- The Mimic
- The Twins
- Yurei
If you are able to catch freezing temperatures then you’re dealing with one of the above spirits. The temperature will only decrease when the ghost is actually in the room. So if you don’t get a good reading at first wait for other signs that the ghost is nearby. This will give you the most accurate reading you can possibly get.

It can be a little tricky at first, and even scary to be honest. Just stick with it and try to coax the ghost into the room by whatever means you can. Once you’ve got the temperature reading you no longer need the thermometer, it has served its purpose.
