Prima | End of the Week Recap #23

Everything you might have missed during the week of March 29 through April 2.

It’s finally Friday, which means it’s time for another End of the Week recap from Prima Games! For those who are new to the End of the Week recaps on our site and curious as to what they’re for, they’re essentially features we put together every Friday and contain a list of all the news, features, reviews, and guides that we published during the week.

Recommended Videos

If you missed anything this week, you’ll find it listed in our End of the Week recap. At the bottom, we also have a Staff Chat section where we discuss various topics both on things that happened this week, and of a more random nature to help you get to know the staff a bit better.

We’re all friends here. If you use Twitch, we also do a livestream every Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (ET) on twitch.tv/primagames. Note that the stream for this Friday (April 2) has been cancelled, but we’ll be back next week same time, same place!

With all of that out of the way, here’s everything you might have missed during the week of March 29 through April 2, 2021 on the Prima Games website!

What did you think of the April 2021 lineup of PS Plus games and Xbox Games With Gold? Anything in there you’d want to play?

It was a good move to include Oddworld in this batch. Sony has really been pushing it in showcases, but it’s still a relative niche these days. So having it front and center for “free” will make sure more people try it out of curiosity rather than hype. The Days Gone part is weird since it’s already in the PS Plus Collection. I know the latter is PS5 only, but it kinda undermines the Collection a little, I think.

How’s Monster Hunter: Rise going?

It was going well! Until I got on my brand of bs and got attached to Mary Skelter. But I’m definitely jumping back in as soon as possible.

On that same note, how’s Outriders going?

I really wasn’t impressed with it when I tried the demo, so I think I’m sitting this one out. I might hop over and Game Pass it though.

Looking forward to any video game releases in April?

Yeah, just a little game called Shin Megami Tensei III. No big deal. Actually it’s a big deal I’m hype.

Favorite piece on the site this week and why?

Jesse really hit the ground running with Monster Hunter and I really struggled to keep up, haha. Definite props for that work.

Playing any cool games over the weekend?

Yeah! Playism hooked me up with a code for Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth. It’s a Metroidvania that is many ways is straight up tribute to Symphony of the Night specifically, but in many other ways is impressive on its own. Plus you can glide around and stab skeletons without touching the ground and that’s been a riot.

What about TV, movies, music, or anime, is there anything you’ve been watching/listening to that you’d recommend?

I definitely, absolutely, positively do NOT reccommend Godzilla vs. Kong. I do recommend The Sphere Hunter on YouTube if you like Japanese games and video essays.

Bonus question, what are some of your favorite video game soundtracks or songs?

Oh no that’s a tough question to answer jeez. I’m all about NES-era Capcom bangers, so DuckTales and Mega Man 2 may sit on top there. I also really love David Wise’s Donkey Kong work, and Etrian Odyssey’s always great for chilling out. But there’s so much more.

What did you think of the April 2021 lineup of PS Plus games and Xbox Games With Gold? Anything in there you’d want to play?

I’m honestly just happy not see Oddworld Soulstorm at any other digital event. It’s been at like every single one.

How’s Monster Hunter: Rise going?

Really well! Excited for the new monsters coming in a few weeks. Going to hunt the hell out of them.

On that same note, how’s Outriders going?

Outriders is certainly a video game. It’s tonally all over the place but I’m enjoying the gameplay loot and playing with friends.

Looking forward to any video game releases in April?

Nier Replicant and Returnal are easily my two most anticipated this month. Fingers crossed both are good

Favorite piece on the site this week and why?

I’m going to shout out my Monster Hutner Rise review because it took a long time but I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Playing any cool games over the weekend?

Going home to see my family for the weekend so I’ll just be bringing my Switch to play more Monster Hunter.

What about TV, movies, music, or anime, is there anything you’ve been watching/listening to that you’d recommend?

Have to catch up on Falcon and The Winter Solider.

Bonus question, what are some of your favorite video game soundtracks or songs?

I find myself listening to Snake Eater a lot. Also shout out to the Persona series for always having a bopping soundtrack.

What did you think of the April 2021 lineup of PS Plus games and Xbox Games With Gold? Anything in there you’d want to play?

The Xbox Games With Gold are interesting, though I do wish they’d have some more “Game Pass” type games in there. For PS Plus, I think it’s good that Oddworld: Soulstorm is in there, more people will check it out and play and hopefully enjoy it.

How’s Monster Hunter: Rise going?

I still don’t have Monster Hunter: Rise and with the way things have been going lately, it seems like one of those games I’m unfortunately going to miss out on. I’ve been living vicariously through the Monster Hunter content up on Prima.

On that same note, how’s Outriders going?

It’s… going. I’m still not quite sure what my thoughts are on Outriders just yet, I need more time with it I think.

Looking forward to any video game releases in April?

New Pokemon Snap, it’s at the end of the month but I am prepared to sink a LOT of time into that game.

Favorite piece on the site this week and why?

Agreeing on the Monster Hunter coverage from Jesse, it’s been stellar.

Playing any cool games over the weekend?

I am! I’m playing two indies and reviews will be up for both next week. So far, both of them are fantastic, a lot of love clearly went into both of them.

What about TV, movies, music, or anime, is there anything you’ve been watching/listening to that you’d recommend?

Ohhhhh yeah, you know me and my music recommendations, I can’t stop myself. I’m going to shake it up and recommend something that’s not k-pop for once, instead I’m going to say that the new album from The Blue Stones is well worth a listen. I’ve had “Oceans” on repeat over and over and over since it came out.

It resonates with me on a soul level, it’s so good. Definitely listen to Oceans

Bonus question, what are some of your favorite video game soundtracks or songs?

The soundtrack for Journey is an all-time favorite. Chrono Cross had an amazing soundtrack as well, and of course the Final Fantasy series always has *chef’s kiss* wonderful music
