Tips & Tricks For Getting Started In Monster Hunter Rise

Eat!

Eating a meal is absolutely one of the most important things you can do before a hunt. To eat a meal simply go to the Canteen in the village or inside the Gathering Hub. I recommend checking both out because they have different cooking animations that are both very cute.

Eating will give you different buffs for the fight ahead based on which Dango to choose from. You can’t really go wrong with any of the ingredients you choose as every stat buff present will help you out.

I recommend looking through all of the options you have and picking buffs that compliment your playstyle. Whether that is increased health or increasing the speed at which you sharpen your weapon. Make sure to eat before every hunt.

You can also register any combination of Dango under the “order the usual” tab in the Canteen to make the process quicker.

Restock Your items!

Before a hunt, it’s essential to go to your item box and refill any items in your inventory you’ll need. This is mostly going to be replenishing your stock of potions and antidotes, but you don’t want to go out on a hunt and realize you only have a few potions left because you forgot to restock.

Restocking your items is a crucial habit to get into. You can also take traps with you to capture monsters, but you can only bring a few traps with you. This means you’ll almost always need to restock your traps after a fight.

Use Your Wirebugs!

The newest addition to Rise is the Wirebug, which acts as both a grappling hook and a new way to attack monsters.

You have two charges of the Wirebug, which can be seen at the bottom of the screen. Using these to get away from a Monster when you need a quick heal can be the difference between life and death.

It’s easy to ignore this mechanic, but ultimately the Wirebug is going to give you so much versatility in your arsenal you’re going to want to learn to use them.

Every weapon has two Silkbind attacks which consume Wirebug charges. For instance, the Hunting Horn has an attack that consumes both charges allowing you to do massive damage to a monster.

The choice between going all-in with that attack or saving the charges for a quick getaway takes practice and instinct, but the more you use them the more comfortable you’ll become with the systems.

Wirebugs can be used with the ZL trigger and will have different functionality based on if your weapon is drawn or not.

If you use the Wirebug as a getaway tool while you’re in the air, you can hit A to suspend yourself in the air above everything. This is great if you need to get off the ground for a moment.

Play around with the Wirebug to figure out how it best suits your playstyle.

Take Advantage of the Endemic Life Around the Map

Another new feature of monster hunter Rise is the Endemic life that can be found around the map. Different creatures will give you a permanent buff during the fight; these range from stamina increases to health and damage increases.

Sometimes it’s worth running around the map on your Palamute to simply collect a bunch of defensive and offensive buffs around the map before taking on the hunt.

All you need to do is find the glowing Spiribugs, and walking near them will activate the buff. It’s an easy way to try and turn the fight in your favor if you’re feeling a tad underpowered.

Learn to Use the Radial Menu

During a fight, it’s already hectic enough; the last thing you need to worry about is going through a  bunch of menuing to grab a potion or item.

Luckily, you can set shortcuts to items like potions or your whetstone in the radial menu. Before a hunt, if you click the + button and go to the radial menu settings, you can customize your shortcuts.

This will give you quick access to whatever items you use the most. Simply customize the radial menu to fit your needs, and it will save you a ton of time on the battlefield.

To open the radial menu when in a fight just hold the L button and use the right stick to quickly select whatever you need.

It takes a little muscle memory, but it is by far the fastest way to grab whatever you need.

Rise gives the player four different radials menus to use, and each can be switched by using the D-Pad.

Use the Training Area

Monster hunter Rise has a pretty expansive training area for your to practice weapon combos, Wirebug tactics, and whatever else you want to improve.

The area is tucked away in the Buddy area. This can be found by going across the Bridge past your house in the village. From there go to the water, and you’ll see a little boat. When you approach the boat, you’ll get the prompt “Move” which will take you to the Training Area.

Use the training area if you want to test out new weapons before going on a hunt. This will help you a ton, and you won’t have to worry about being killed or wasting items trying to stay alive.

Well, that’s everything we have for tips & tricks for getting started in Monster Hunter Rise. Be sure to check out the official prima Games Twitter and Facebook pages for more on Monster Hunter and other games.
