A fix is slowly rolling out as the Steam servers were down beginning yesterday evening and rolling into today. While many reported outages are slowly turning green, the massive Steam error code was completely blocking users from being able to access their libraries.
The Steam outage first began with players only having limited access to certain games, while others were perfectly accessible. Unfortunately, among the games not easily launched were some high ticket adventures like Destiny 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
After a few hours, the error codes increased and many began reporting that they could not access anything in Steam, instead reaching a black screen when looking at the Store, Library, and Community tabs. In the few instances where a tab would load, it would be missing a lot of information, including player profile info, comments, and wishlists.
Some Steam users reported that they could launch games from desktop, though a warning would pop up saying that Cloud Saves were disabled and matchmaking was unavailable. Luckily, it looks like a lot of these hiccups have been fixed, or at least a fix is in progress.

Valve did not address what caused the issue, neither on the Steam client itself or on social media, but a fix has begun to roll out and the amount of error reports has gone down exponentially. While inconvenient to be sure, it’s important to realise that any client that is constantly online is going to have issues. PlayStation Network and Xbox Live are no stranger to this downside of online, but as long as the team is aware, a fix can be made.
