Star Wars: Squadrons will feature 5v5 multiplayer dogfights in addition to incredibly massive fleet battles. Squadrons will also feature an original story set during the end times for the Galactic Empire following the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Even better? This game will have a VR component as well for those that truly want to get lost in a galaxy far, far away.

“We created this game for every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favorite starfighter,” said Ian Frazier, Creative Director, Motive Studios, in a recent press statement to PrimaGames. “Through the collaboration of the teams at Motive and Lucasfilm, we’ve been able to create a high-fidelity starfighter experience with an authentic storyline that invites Star Wars fans to explore never-before-seen corners of the galaxy in their own ship. We’re excited to show all this in action this week at EA Play Live.”

Star Wars: Squadrons will have players transform into starfighter pilots as they plan skirmishes, strategize for galactic battles, and so much more. The 5v5 battles will be highly strategic, according to Motive, with the sole objective being total annihilation of the other side.

“Star Wars: Squadrons will offer rich cosmetic and gameplay customization options with rewards and bonuses that are earned solely through gameplay. As players move up the ranks, they’ll earn components such as weapons, hulls, engines and shields to customize the performance of their starfighters; and gain cosmetic items to customize their cockpit, ship exteriors, and appearance of their pilot. In addition, players will be able to squad up with their friends and play against others, regardless of platform, as cross-play will be supported on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and VR.”

But it’s not just PvP, there will also be a single-player story as well for those looking to see what happens following the Battle of Endor after the Death Star II was demolished. It’s during this story that players will learn what it truly means to be a pilot in the midst of war as they alternate between two customizable pilots.

Star Wars: Squadrons is available to pre-order now before it arrives on October 2 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and VR. Thoughts on the latest Star Wars adventure? Sound off with what you thought of the above trailer over on Twitter @PrimaGames!
