Sony has announced that it will be debuting the first look at the PlayStation 5 games lineup on Thursday, June 4 at 1 PM PT/4 PM ET. The event will run for about an hour and will offer a “first look at the games” that will be coming to the PS5 later this year.
The event was announced on the PlayStation blog by Sony President and CEO Jim Ryan. While Ryan didn’t offer details on what kind of games would be shown off during the event, he did indicate that both AAA and indie studios would have something to show during the stream.
“Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware,” said Ryan. “I hope we can make you proud.”
Fans can tune into the event on the official PlayStation YouTube and Twitch channel next week. Earlier this month, rumors began circulating in the community that PlayStation would be revealing some of its upcoming titles in June, which is said to include an exciting lineup of first-party games. If you’re familiar with Sony’s track record, you’ll know that first-party games are something it does incredibly well.

After an impressive demo of the new Unreal Engine 5 was debuted on a PS5 earlier this month, the gaming community has been abuzz wondering what could be in store for next-gen. Further, while we still haven’t been given an official release date for the PlayStation 5, Sony has confirmed that it is on track to release this holiday, despite rumored delays due to COIVD-19.
With an SSD that is 100x faster than the PS4, Ryan is promising that the event will showcase the “potential of the hardware” inside of the PS5. At the time of writing, there are only a handful of confirmed PS5 games, so it should be interesting to see what else PlayStation has planned.
Further, Ryan stated in the announcement post that this event is part of a “series of PS5 updates” and that Sony will still have a lot of stuff to share with fans after the event next week. However, at the time of writing, no other events have been announced.
Sony officially announced the PS5 at CES 2020 and gave fans an incredibly detailed look at the hardware that’s inside the upcoming console during a recent stream. Fans also got a look at the redesigned PS5 controller, dubbed the DualSense, but have yet to hear about the console’s lineup of games.
