The Witcher Netflix Series Showrunner Responds to Nilfgaard Armor Backlash

The Witcher Netflix series has been out for a few weeks now and has instantly become a hit sensation. With it quickly becoming the most streamed series recently, even nudging out The Mandalorian when that was still airing, it’s clear that showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich did this fandom proud when basing the show from the books (the games game later). That being said, not every aspect of the series was a smashing success, in fact, people are still talking about how much they hated the Nilfgaard armor. 

While the games by CD Projekt RED were set long after the events of the first book, and subsequently the show, viewers couldn’t help but compare the show’s armor to that of the game. In the game, the Nilfgaard armor was a sleek black armor set that looked powerful. In the show, it kind of made the wearer look like a giant tree ballsack. According to Hissrich, the reason for this particular design was due to a few different reasonings, the first being that this army was massive and the writers pooled together to make the decision to make something that looks like it could be produced on a grand scale. 

Additionally, she mentioned the nature of the army was also a huge factor, saying that the Nilfgaardian army was traveling north as their main objective, making the armor decide put functionality and combat prowess over how “pretty” it looks. 

As for the show that’s on Netflix now in its entirity, it has been a massive success thus far. With it dethroning The Mandalorian as the most streamed television show going on now and it breaking records once more for the game counterpart seen in The Witcher III, there’s no doubt about it that Superman’s Henry Cavill pulled off his latest role in stunning detail.
