If you’re a Baldur’s Gate fan, then you’re not going to feel out of place at all after the announcement of Dungeons & Dragons Dark Alliance at this year’s Game Awards. As one might have realized after watching the incredible preview trailer, Dark Alliance is going to track Drizzt Do’Urden’s adventures in what looks like a whole new universe to explore. This is going to be a Dungeons & Dragons game, and we can expect to see some iconic companions like Cattie-Brie, Bruenor, and Wulfgar making an appearance in this whole new world that’s going to be made available on a variety of consoles in Fall 2020.
From what we know so far about Dungeons & Dragons Dark Alliance, it’s going to have online multiplayer as well as drop-in couch co-op, and it’ll be the team at Tuque Games bringing the experience to the masses. Seeing as how the traditional D&D experience for plenty of players is still about gathering around the tabletop with a bunch of mates in person, having couch co-op work smoothly could go a long way to recreating this sort of feel in a digital setting. With the rise of platforms like Roll 20 helping to connect avid fans of TTRPGs, Dark Alliance at its best could very well be the definitive D&D experience that sees the Icewind Dale canon come to life.
