Dungeons & Dragons is constantly evolving, which means a constantly changing rotation of class variant features. With players being able to test out new features through Unearthed Arcana, the latest document to talk about what’s new just released and includes a new variant class ability and a few other key changes.
The entire Unearthed Arcana class feature variant doc can be found here listing out all of the classes and what changes they are seeing. The full details are numerous but there was one thing that stood out to be very interesting and that was the Proficiency Versatility feature, which is a feature that gives players the ability to swap out one of their skill proficiencies with another class option once an Ability Score Increase has occurred. This provides a little more wiggle room for players to try out different skills for their perfect build.
For those that enjoy the Ranger class, a class often seen as overlooked in the Dungeons & Dragons community, they have a lot of ‘newness’ as well including the Favored Enemy and the Natural Explorer variants being swapped for variants that make a little more sense, especially regarding the Hunter’s Mark.
Beastmasters also saw some love with their Primal Beast of choice, while the magic users and bards can make a few swaps like the Rangers as well. You can learn more about what’s new with Druids, Clerics, Rangers, Fighters, Rogues, and so much more with the latest Unearthed Arcana breakdown right here.
It’s important to remember that this is just in testing phase. Sometimes, tests don’t make it to the official rulebook – and that’s OK – but for now, a new class variant in Dungeons & Dragons is in progress for players to provide feedback on.
