The Borderlands Movie Could Have The Rock Voicing Claptrap If Gearbox Gets Its Way

Do you smell ... what The Rock ... is, wait, Claptrap!?

Do you smell … what The Rock … is, wait, Claptrap!? Apparently that’s not as odd as it may sound, because Gearbox really wants the wrestler-turned-actor to be the annoying robot companion we all know and want to throw off a clip in an upcoming Borderlands movie adaptation.

In case you didn’t know, a Borderlands movie is currently in production with Gearbox working alongside Lionsgate to nail down this adaptation. Like most game adaptation movies, we don’t actually know a whole lot about it other than apparently, they really, really want The Rock.

According to VG247, Gearbox creative director Paul Sage thinks Dwayne Johnson, The Rock, would be a perfect fit for the comedic sidekick. Weird because of his size and deep voice, but hey – anything is possible. Plus after seeing him in Jumanji, I’ve learned to just expect the unexpected.

If he does get cast, this makes one more tally on his games-to-movie list with previous works including the 2005 DOOM, Rampage, and Jumanji (though the last one is a bit of a stretch). He’s also mentioned in the past that he would be open to being in the upcoming Call of Duty film, so we’ll see? Maybe he’ll be the go-to gaming guy, who’s to say?

Whoever they cast as Claptrap, he needs to be perfect. If he doesn’t want to make us put one of those fancy guns to our own skull, is it really even Claptrap? Didn’t think so.

The Borderlands movie is without a date or a cast, but keep it tuned in and we’ll keep you posted!
