Developers have been laying down the law in recent years, harder than ever before, when it comes to cheaters invading their online spaces. Respawn is no exception to this with their hit battle royale game Apex Legends and now they are taking sweet, sweet justice into their own hands by forcing cheaters to play with other cheaters.
There is a god.
The dev team took to Reddit to talk about their continued efforts against cheaters beyond that of simple bans. Banning doesn’t always work, and sometimes it’s hard to nail down exact cases, so they are trying something a little different this go around in the hopes that cheaters will finally eat that humble pie and play the game the way it’s meant to be played:
- Using machine learning to create behavior models that detect and auto ban cheaters.
- Requiring TFA in certain regions on high risk accounts.
- Improving detection that identifies and bans new spam accounts before they are used.
- Ongoing work to adapt to new cheats.
- Matchmaking that matches detected cheaters and spammers together.
- Investigating how people party up for matches. Even if you are not specifically using a cheat, partying up with cheaters is still cheating.
- Increasing resources whether that be people or tech.
As seen in the post above, spammers and cheaters alike will be lumped together so they can ruin each other’s experiences instead of ours.
Though cheating and hacking is unfortunately not new territory for online gaming, it does bring down the experience for those that are actually good at games and don’t have to rely on hacks to seem better than they are.
Man, this tea is good today.
