Not unlike The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 will continue to evolve with the player in mind.

From everything we’ve seen thus far of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED’s newest IP looks to honor everything that this studio is known for: a damn good story. In an age of live service games and half-cooked launches, the studio promises that they have their player base in mind and will have a completely finished game at launch, complete with a “very rewarding” conclusion ahead of future expansions.

Speaking exclusively with Prima Games, UI Coordinator Alvin Liu opens up a bit about what the future holds for Cyberpunk 2077. “We are talking about expansions in the future,” he tells me. “We want to make sure everything’s complete, but we also want to build open worlds. I know when I was playing The Witcher 3 and I finished everything, I still want to know what everyone was up to. I think we’re going to have opportunities like that as well for Cyberpunk 2077.”

As with any open world game, there is a main questline and branching objectives. When speaking about the progression of the main narrative, Lui mentions “So I don’t want to spoil anything right now, but very satisfying story arc, right? You’re going to see characters and you’ll see them develop. You’re going to see them go through conflicts and resolve those conflicts. It’ll be a very rewarding ending. We’re not withholding content, we’re not withholding story for the future to try to, you know, monetize it or sell it in pieces or anything like that. You’re going to get the whole, full value game here.”

This is something that CD Projekt RED did very well when it came to their famed Witcher franchise. The final expansion for Witcher 3 was bigger than the entirety of The Witcher 2, making it almost like an entirely new game, well worth the price tag attached to it. While Liu was not able to give us details about the expansions, it is very clear how devoted the studio is to the single-player promise of a phenomenal experience and after getting yet another up close and personal demo, we cannot wait to get our hands on this latest adventure.

As for the game itself, CD Projekt RED’s brand new IP officially arrives on September 17, 2020. For more about the game:

Cyberpunk 2077 is a narrative-driven, open world RPG set in the most vibrant and dangerous metropolis of the future — Night City. You play as V, a hired gun on the rise, who just got their first serious contract. In a world of cyber-enhanced street warriors, tech-savvy netrunners and corporate life-hackers, today is your first step to becoming an urban legend.”
