For gamers on the fence about purchasing Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, knowing whether the game can be played offline can serve as an important deciding factor. Even if you ignore the multitude of PvP and PvE elements available in The Division 2, the official answer as to whether the game can be played offline is no, it cannot. Regardless of how you choose to enjoy Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, all aspects of the game require an internet connection thanks to its “always online” setup.

That said, just because The Division 2 requires an internet connection doesn’t mean you can’t do things like play through the campaign solo or do a bit of solo exploration. You’re not required to matchmake with other players if you don’t want to, even though the game subtlety encourages co-op play.

Instead, you’ll simply need a subscription to Xbox Live Gold on Xbox One or PlayStation Plus on PlayStation 4. For PC players, make sure your computer is connected to the internet before launching the game.

In the future, it’s possible that other games in The Division series may offer offline play, but as of the time of this writing, games like Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 cannot be played offline. An internet connection on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC is required in order to play Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.
