Red Dead Redemption 2 – Legendary Fish Locations

Along with hunting down all of the animals of legend found in Rockstar’s latest, there are a number of a legendary fish in Red Dead Redemption 2 as well. You won’t need a sniper rifle for these legendar fish in Red Dead Redemption 2 – instead, don your fishing rod, attach your lure and sit patiently waiting for a bite. Read on to find out the legendary fish locations in Red Dead Redemption 2.

As for which lure to use, there’s three in total, for each type of water: Special Lake Lure, Special River Lure, and the Special Swamp Lure. You can’t catch Shrek with the latter unfortunately, but each one increases your chance of catching specific fish. Don’t worry though, we’ve categorised the fish into their respective lure so you don’t need to spend time working out which is best.

Before you can start fishing for the legendary fish, you first need to ensure you’ve already got the fishing rod from Jeremy. If you haven’t, follow our article on how to fish in order to do that.

There’s 14 legendary fish in total in Red Dead Redemption 2, though the final one is definitely the ultimate legendary fish. Here is where you can find them all:

Special River Lure Fish

Legendary Bullhead Catfish

At the far eastern side of the map, by the Sisika Penitentiary Island is where you’ll find the Legendary Bullhead Catfish.

Legendary Chain Pickerel

Right next to Horseshoe Overlook is the Dakota River. Fish there to have a shot at the Legendary Chain Pickerel.

Legendary Large Sturgeon

In the south-west corner of Saint Denis is where the Kamassa River opens into the Lannahechee River. You’ll find the Legendary Large Sturgeon there, south of Caliga Hall.

Legendary Muskie

Alongside the Lannahechee River at the very bottom of the Van Horn Trading Post is the Legendary Muskie.

Legendary Steelhead Trout

In the very north-east corner of the map, right next to the Legendary Moose location is where you’ll find the Legendary Steelhead Trout.

Special Lake Lure Fish

Legendary Bluegill

On the eastern shore of Flat Iron Lake is the city of Rhodes. Look south-west, north-west of Braithwaite Manor for the Legendary Bluegill.

Legendary Largemouth Bass

Down in New Austin, the area from the original Red Dead Redemption is the home of the Legendary Largemouth Bass. look to the south along the San Luis River and you can find it on the bend, south-west of Lake Don Julio.

Legendary Perch

Halfway along the Kamassa River is Elysian Pool, north-west of the Van Horn Trading Post. Fish here to have a shot at the Legendary Perch.

Legendary Redfin Pickerel

Another one in New Austin, the Legendary Redfin Pickerel swims around Stillwater Creek, between Thieves Landing and MacFarlane’s Ranch.

Legendary Rock Bass

North-west of the Redfin Pickerel is the Tall Trees area, west of Blackwater. Look in the Aurora Basin for the Legendary Rock Bass.

Legendary Smallmouth Bass

Further north again and you’ll find Lake Owanjila, west of Strawberry in West Elizabeth. Search near the eastern part of the edge for the Legendary Smallmouth Bass.

Legendary Sockeye Salmon

Go north again from the Legendary Smallmouth Bass into the snowy region of the map, past Mount Hagen. The Legendary Sockeye Salmon is in the southern part of Lake Isabella, west of Beartooth Beck.

Special Swamp Lure Fish

Legendary Longnose Gar

North of Saint Denis is Bluewater Marsh. Look in the southern portion of Lake Lagras, east of the bend in Kamassa River for the Legendary Longnose Gar, the only one that requires the Special Swamp Lure.

Finale: Legendary Catfish

The very final legendary fish you can catch is the Legendary Catfish, but you don’t unlock the opportunity to capture it until you’ve caught all of the other 13 legendary fish mentioned above. When you do, Jeremy – the chap who gave you the fishing rod in the first place – will have a side quest for you, where you’ll go out together and catch the Legendary Catfish.
