When it comes to the futuristic setting of Square Enix’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, nothing comes easy – at least, according to the new live-action trailer released for the upcoming sequel.
In the four-minute prologue, players will learn more about how the world is in the year 2027, divided over a singular issue – the use of technology when it comes to creating augmented humans. At first, it’s a helpful feature, helping those build their life again after replacing damaged limbs. But soon, a darker side of the story emerges, and people begin to develop hate between the “Augs” and the “non-Augs,” creating a segregated community where hatred boils over.
Eventually, enough violence and discrimination take place in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided to create the Human Restoration Act, in which “non-Augs” are separated physically from those with augmented replacements, for the sake of their own safety. But as you can see from the clip below, it’s not always the easiest of answers, especially when there’s someone augmented that you love.
That’s where Adam Jensen comes in, utilizing his augmentation to try and push the tide back in the favor of the “Augs,” though he has plenty of opposition getting in his way.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided releases August 23rd for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
