The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles returned with an all-new adventure, and we compiled a list of tips for Teenage Mutant: Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan to help you avoid turning into turtle soup!
Getting Around in TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan
The levels in Mutants In Manhattan revolve around an open-world concept, which means you’ll occasionally need a guide in order to find your next objective. You can find these objectives with ease by activating Donatello’s T-Gauss system, which you can turn on with the R3 button. The T-Gauss system will help pinpoint certain objectives ranging from a group of Foot Soldiers you need to beat up, to bags of stolen money you need to return to a portal.
However, it also pays to do a little exploring. Most of these objectives aren’t timed (save for bombs that require defusing), so you can look around the city for secret items including green orbs. These orbs can be used to purchase upgrades and earn charms back at your Turtle lair. Take the time to look around in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan whenever you get a chance – it just might pay off.
If you need to complete an objective first (like the bombs), remember that you can always look around the level before you have to enter the boss area. You may encounter a little trouble along the way with Foot Soldier resistance, however this will give you the opportunity to practice your combo skills prior to the boss fight.
Mastering Combat in TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan
The combat system is pretty basic, enabling you to chain light and heavy hits together into various combinations. You can practice these in your lair at any time, or apply them in fights with Foot Soldiers. Just be sure to keep the following things in mind.
First, stronger hits are more effective against enemies in general, as some of them will have shielding to fend off lighter attacks in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan. Save the weaker attacks for regular Foot Soldiers and Mousers.
Also, you have Special Attacks that you can call upon over the course of the game. Some will distract enemies, like Michelangelo’s Cheerleader dance (don’t ask). Although your Special Attacks recharge quickly (after a minute or so), try to save them for more dangerous enemies or large clusters of Foot Soldiers. Furthermore, try to save as many as you can for boss battles as they deal a significant amount of damage to larger foes like Rocksteady and Bebop.
Finally, you have access to Shurikens. These do minimal amounts of damage to foes, but you can fine-tune your aim (holding down the left shoulder button) in order to hit nearby exploding barrels. Exploding barrels do substantial damage to opponents, but wait until there are multiple enemies nearby before detonating them, in addition to avoiding the blast radius.
Charms and Items in TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan
Charms can be earned over the course of the game, and they vary depending on how well you score after each round. You can activate them by re-visiting your lair (either before the start of a next mission or with highlighted sewer lids that appear in particular stage areas), but you only have access to so many at a time so make them count.
In addition, you’ll have access to items like exploding barrels that you can pick up and throw throughout your fight in Mutants In Manhattan. There are also pizzas that you’ll acquire by collecting green orbs in the game. Chowing down on a pizza will restore energy to either you or your teammates.
Boss Fights in TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan
There are a number of boss fights in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; Mutants In Manhattan including Bebop, Rocksteady, the rogue mutant turtle Slash, and eventually the Super Shredder. The bosses are basic to figure out because they have an indicator before they attack (highlighted in red).
Most of the time you’ll be able to jump out of the way, so try to practice your turtle evasion by hitting B or the circle button depending on your version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan. This will put you into a spin for a few seconds, and will enable you to scurry out of the way. Don’t use it for too long though, or you’ll make yourself dizzy and vulnerable.
You can turn off your spin right when a boss is about to attack in order to deliver a parry, leaving them temporarily open for a few strikes. Likewise, as with previous Platinum Games releases like Bayonetta and Transformers: Devastation, you can evade an attack and perform a counter-technique (by pressing the B or circle button, depending on the version) for extra damage.
Your Special Attacks deal a lot of damage to boss enemies, bringing their life meter down at a much quicker rate. Try to coordinate your Special Attacks with fellow players if you can (if you’re solo direct your “brothers” by using the D-pad to hold back, go all in, or defend you), and you’ll be able to finish off a boss with ease.
Using these tips will help you head off and save the day in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan!
