Clash of Clans is finally becoming consistent with their Town Hall upgrades. They have consistently released new Town Hall upgrades over the past three years now, and it does make sense to revolve a whole year’s worth of content into one Town Hall upgrade and sprinkle more refinement and upgrades as the months go by for the next Town Hall. In 2024, fans will be getting a Town Hall 17 upgrade, new upgrades, troops, mechanics, traps, and maybe even a new hero. Here are all the details regarding Clash of Clans’ TH17 update and release date.

General Building and Defense Upgrades and Changes

Here are all the building upgrades, including key defensive upgrades for your base:

  • The TH17 has increased its range from 10 tiles to 12 tiles compared to the TH16. This makes sense since the Eagle Artillery has now been merged with the Town Hall, and defenses surely need a buff with the artillery gone.
  • TH17 Inferno Artillery Weapon – shoots up to four targets, dealing damage and leaving a fire effect on the ground on impact (which also hits the air units). It targets both ground and air units.
  • Giants get a buff to level 13, including the Super Troops version.
  • New Giga Bomb trap that deals massive damage to troops when they are near. It explodes for a massive 4.5-tile radius. The Giga Bomb also has a 3.5 trigger radius and an 18 housing space trigger. This means that there needs to be a total of 18 housing space for troops within the 3.5 trigger radius to activate the Giga Bomb.
  • Air Defense to level 15.
  • Multi-Archer Tower to level 3.
  • Bomb Tower to level 12.
  • Ricochet Cannons to level 3.
  • Wizard Tower to level 17.
  • You can build one extra Archer Tower, a Seeking Air Mine, and a Giant Bomb.
  • Bombs, Giant Bombs, Seeking Air Mines, and Air Bombs are getting upgrades on TH17.
  • Walls to level 18, at 8,000,000 per upgrade (which is now cheaper).
  • Storage upgrades to a maximum of 24,000,000 Gold and Elixir storages and 390,000 Dark Elixir Storage
  • Barracks upgrade to level 18 (at TH16), Spell Factory upgrades to level 8 (at TH15), and Clan Castle upgrades to level 13 (at TH17).
  • Research Laboratory to level 15, giving access to troop upgrades.

New defense building – Firespitter. It is meant to upgrade defenses as the Eagle Artillery has been merged with the Town Hall, and every offensive option got a buff with the update. The Firespitter has a slightly similar range and mechanic as the Air Sweeper, but instead of pushing units away, it spits fire, dealing high damage.

A new utility building – Helper Hut. It can be instantly built since it has no build time. It is just meant to house the new utility features like the Builder’s Apprentice and the new Lab Assistant, which speed up the research instead of speeding up builders.

Goodbye Hero Altars – new Hero Hall. Everyone gets a new Hero Hall building where you can quickly access and manage all your heroes. Their Hero Altars are now replaced with banners. You can assign any hero on each banner, and it’ll work the same way as the previous Hero Altars, where the assigned hero will defend the surrounding area.

As priorities go, it does make sense to get the Research Laboratory first, along with upgrading your storage. The earlier you can start upgrading to TH17 troops, the stronger your offense will be. You can then focus on the Clan Castle and maybe the TH17 weapon upgrade until you want to use other units tied to the new Barracks upgrade.

Troops and Spell Changes and Upgrades

As for troops and spell changes, here is a quick rundown of all the units getting an upgrade.

  • Giants get a buff to level 13, including the Super Troops version.
  • Wall Breaker to level 13, including the Super Troops version.
  • Wizard to level 13, including the Super Troops version.
  • Dragon to level 12, including the Super Troops version.
  • Baby Dragon to level 11, including the Super Troops version.
  • Electro Dragon to level 8.
  • Dragon Rider to level 5.
  • Minion to level 13, including the Super Troops version.
  • Battle Drill to level 5
  • Lightning Spells to level 12.
  • Healing Spells to level 11.
  • Recall Spells to level 6.
  • Barbarian King to 100, Archer Queen to 100, Grand Warden to level 75, Royal Champion to 50.

A new troop arrives – the Thrower. The Thrower unit unlocks when you upgrade your Barracks to level 18, which is actually at Town Hall 16 instead of the new Town Hall 17. The Thrower is a ranged unit that throws spears or javelins at a single target, offering the ability to hit both ground and air units. They are pretty slow, and they use up 16 housing spaces per troop. However, it has decent damage and high hitpoints for a ranged DPS unit. Just because it is slightly bulkier and has a higher range than a Wizard, it is a really strong unit compared to similar troops that have the same role in an attack strategy (Bowlers and Wizards).

A new spell is brewing – the Revive spell. The spell is unlocked at Town Hall level 15 and shows up when you upgrade the Spell Factory to level 8. The spell straight up revives a hero at 60% health. Each upgrade increases the health revive by 5% and maxes out at 75% for the current TH17 update. It takes up two housing spaces, and the Revive spell works by dropping it on a fallen hero. If there are multiple heroes in the spell radius, it heals the closest one to the center of the spell, so it cannot revive multiple heroes at once.

A new hero emerges – the Minion Prince. The Minion Prince is unlocked at Town Hall 9, but players who have higher Town Hall levels will get a Hero Hall unlocked according to the maximum Town Hall level. For example, if you are TH16, you’ll get a Hero Hall level 10. When you upgrade to a TH17, you’ll still have to upgrade the Hero Hall to level 11, but you will instantly get the Minion Prince before everything else. In this case, the Minion Prince will already be available to you at TH16, but at level 70 (if your other heroes are maxed out).

With these game-changing troops, spells, defenses, and buildings, the battlefield will look a lot different.

Clash of Clans Town Hall 17 Release Date

While many details have been announced, the release date still remains unclear. However, it will surely arrive before the year ends. Content creators are already practically confirming that TH17 will be released a day after the Hammer Jam event.

The Hammer Jam event gives players to catch up on their building, troops, hero, and wall upgrades with an enormous decrease in cost and upgrade time. So, it does make sense to release the new content after letting players catch up.

The Hammer Jam event in 2024 is about to end on November 25, 2024, which means that the TH17 will be released on November 26, 2024. This also aligns with all the Hammer Jam events in the past and the recurring theme – to release a new Town Hall upgrade after a Hammer Jam event.

Brief History of All Town Hall Release Dates in Clash of Clans

To take a look back on the history of all Town Hall release dates, you can see that Supercell has been becoming more consistent by introducing new Town Hall upgrades every year instead of an inconsistent update. Here’s the list of all Town Hall release dates before TH17:

  • TH1-8 were released on August 2, 2012
  • TH9 was released on October 27, 2012
  • TH10 was released on May 23, 2013
  • TH11 was released on December 10, 2015
  • TH12 was released on June 11, 2018
  • TH13 was released on December 9, 2019
  • TH14 was released on April 12, 2021
  • TH15 was released on October 10, 2022
  • TH16 was released on December 12, 2023

While it is possible that they could delay the TH17 update to December, in this case, they may also extend the Hammer Jam event.
