One of the most exciting features of Metaphor: ReFantazio is its build diversity. With numerous archetypes to choose from and every character having the ability to switch to any archetype, this brings wonderful combinations to your party. You can play through the game’s long story and not even have a chance to experience all combinations. However, some recurring archetypes always show up in every party because they are just that good. Here are the best archetype combinations for your party in Metaphor: ReFantazio.
The Best Archetype Combinations for Your Party in Metaphor ReFantazio
Party Formation Tips
Before we go into the archetypes, you need to know the mechanics of party formations first. Most players forget about this mechanic even after learning about it in the early stages of the story. You have a maximum party of up to four members, and you can position each member to be at the front or the back of the party during fights.
When a party member is at the front, they’ll deal more melee damage, which is almost mandatory for archetypes like a Knight, Warrior, or a Brawler. They won’t be able to do as much damage when positioned at the back, but there are still some cases during a battle where you want some of them to be at the back of the formation at times.
Ranged archetypes like casters and gunners are usually positioned at the back because they are more fragile and do as much damage from the back as from the front. However, some archetypes, like a Gunner, would need to be at the back because some of the skills won’t be useable if they aren’t at the back.
Best Archetype Formations
Here are all the archetypes you can unlock in Metaphor ReFantazio in alphabetical order:
- Berserker

- Commander
- Faker
- Gunner
- Healer

A max party size of four instead of three brings a whole lot of synergies and archetype combinations to the gameplay. Each combination of archetypes in your party of four can bring different Synthesis skills to the table, giving you a more diverse power to handle almost any battle situation.
The best archetype formations usually mean that you can deal with any weaknesses at any given time. You also want the ability to help your team recover from dire situations and be durable enough to take heavy damage from various attacks.

In most cases, the best archetype formations are:
Healer – Flex – Flex – Tank
The Healer archetype is just too useful to pass up because it can correct numerous mistakes in battle. Healers provide the versatility to heal multiple targets at once and can cure any condition. There are formations where you can rely on Seeker, a versatile archetype with healing, slashing, and wind damage, but you want to have both.
A flex spot would mean any archetype that can provide something the whole party is lacking. Mage is one of the best archetypes for the flex slot because it offers more Synthesis skills than any other archetype, and it can basically provide three to five damage elements to the party.
The next flexible and tank spots should handle the “physical” part of your damage by providing slash, pierce, or strike damage. You want to have a mix of two or three of these for your other flex spot and your tank spot.
The best for the tank spot is the Berserker archetype, which gives you some heavy slash and piercing damage. If you add a set skill to the member using this archetype, you can add one elemental damage or even an additional healing skill to help your party even more. You’ll want to add more Endurance attributes for this character so it can be more durable in certain situations where you have to tank massive damage in the frontline.
Any other missing utilities, elements, and physical damage should be either added to your igniter item slot or set skill slots (which is why you need to level up multiple archetypes on each character).
