If there is a resource that wasn’t emphasized as much in Frostpunk 2, it would be the Goods resource. It isn’t as important as Food or Heating, but it is still one of the main resources in every playthrough. Producing Goods negates several severe outcomes that could happen to your city. This is why the Goods has its own icon or metric on the central panel of your UI in-game. Since it wasn’t touched upon as often as other mechanics, here’s a guide on how to increase or produce Goods in Frostpunk 2.
How to Produce Goods in Frostpunk 2
To produce Goods in Frostpunk 2, you must build Industrial Districts. You can treat these Industrial Districts as Housing Districts, as you don’t need to place them on any specific tiles to acquire or extract resources. Since these Industrial Districts don’t have those strict requirements, you can use them to fix your city’s layout in a way that can provide more heating.
If you place your districts close to each other, they will negate some of the cold effects and indirectly contribute to your heating solutions since they require less heat.
Once you have placed your Industrial Districts, you can select them and look for the production icons, as seen in the image above. Look for the icon that looks like a vase or the Goods icon (similar to the Goods icon on the upper panel). Industrial Districts produce different resources, and if you don’t choose the Goods icon, you won’t get Goods for your city. The other icon is for Prefabs, which is used for construction. These productions will cost you a ton of Materials, so you need a surplus of them before even building them.
What Do Goods Provide in Frostpunk 2?
Your city always starts with a negative Goods metric on the top panel. Since you need your city to produce Goods first, your population will start eating up your natural surplus of Goods at the start of a game. The only way to fix this problem is by building those Industrial Districts and start producing Goods.
If you don’t have enough Goods and you run out of your stockpile, there will be a great increase in crime in your city. Crime leads to many different outcomes. A high crime rate will lead to the loss of life or population and trust among your people. These two are extremely significant and if you don’t fix the problem by providing the people with Goods, you might get exiled soon.
You want to have at least two Industrial Districts producing Goods to keep your city accommodated. However, this price is steep as they need a lot of workforces, Heatstamps, Prefabs, and heating. You always want to look for efficiency shortcuts through passing laws or researching ideas as you progress. If you can get some improved efficiency in other areas, spending that much resources on Industrial Districts won’t be too bad.
However, if you are barely making ends meet, you need to focus more on ways to cut corners and get more efficiency, or you’ll end up solving a problem by turning it into another problem (when you build two Industrial Districts). You can always just build one to slow down your diminishing Goods stockpile and aim to fix it in the near future.
