Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the latest entry in the critically acclaimed series from Bioware and Electronic Arts. The new title is also being developed on EA’s Frostbite engine, similar to their previous major entry, Dragon Age: Inquisition. EA titles tend to require an additional launcher on Steam, which extends to the Steam Deck as well. However, Bioware has confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard won’t require the EA App on Steam.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Won’t Require EA App

The official Dragon Age account on Twitter/X has confirmed that the upcoming Dragon Age: The Veilguard does not require the EA App on Steam because it’s a native Steam release.

This means that, unlike their previous titles that required linking Steam profiles to the EA App, Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be a traditional application, and work without the need for an additional login.

This isn’t the first EA-published title to remove the EA App requirement, but recently, Hazelight Studios removed the EA App requirement from their smash co-op hit, It Takes Two.

There’s more good news, though, especially for Steam Deck users!

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Steam Deck Verified

Additionally, Bioware has also confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard is Steam Deck verified. This means the game passes all of Valve’s major checks and will run in a playable state with full controller support, and readable text. This update has been added to the game’s store page on Steam as well.

We’re glad to see Bioware and EA taking steps to listen to player feedback and make third-party launcher requirements optional. We hope this continues to be the case for their other upcoming releases as well.

While the EA App isn’t as annoying as other requirements like PSN for Concord and God of War: Ragnarok, which have locked players entirely out, it’s still a positive move that will definitely garner some goodwill from the PC community.
